What is the best heavyweight champion in concrete decade (12 champions)?

I wonder if there would be some different choices between a lot of people and how much of them.

You can add XIXth century if you want.

1910-1919 - Johnson
1920-1929 - Dempsey
1930-1939 - Louis
1940-1949 - Louis
1950-1959 - Marciano
1960-1969 - Ali
1970-1979 - Ali
1980-1989 - Holmes

The time lines screw it up for Frazier. Lewis is close to Holyfield.

I'd still take Lewis from 2000-2009, that's how weak Vitali's resume is.

Oh so I did. I needed to add foster to Ali's list of victims too!

It depends on the criteria. Ali has the resume, but at their peaks Joe was the better fighter in the 60's for me.

I think it's hilarious that some people are actually placing Vitali for 2000-2009

He fought 14 times in that span, lost to Byrd and Lewis. His best wins in that span are probably Peter, Sanders........uhhhh.......Larry Donald? Danny Williams?

Lewis fought 7 times, lost to Rahman and his best wins are probably Tua, Tyson, Rahman in the rematch not to mention....well.....Vitali Klitschko.

I can totally get people deciding to put Holyfield over Lewis for the 90's, but even though he only fought for three years into the decade, I have a very hard time placing Vitali over Lewis for the 2000's as a whole. Just in those three years, Lewis' level of opposition and wins dwarfs Klitschko's in my view.

That's because he forgot to put Patterson X2?.....or maybe because Frazier is X2 better than the others. You can bet there's a good reason for it.

I'd have to go with Lewis...but it's a 3 way race that he noses. Yeah, it's a stretch to call it for Vitali.

I would still stand by Ali having the best resume and being the best heavy of the 70s. The K vs LL debate for 2000-2009 has some merit but putting Frazier and Holmes above Ali in the 70s makes no sense at all. Frazier started to decline in the early 70s and only had 3 fights from 75-79 whilst Holmes only started to hit his stride around 78' when he beat Shavers and Norton.

Ali was the dominate heavy of the 70s, he had 30 odd fights against champs or contenders and lost 3 (all revenged).

That's not really Il Duce's opinion, it's just his way of sayin "Howdy!"

Ali lost to Norton 3 times, and he beat Frazier twice when Frazier was not in his prime. He lost to Jimmy Young, too. Patterson was already over the hill.

Patterson was in his prime the first time, though his back hurt his cause after a few rounds.
He was still quite rusty when he lost to Frazier. When he beat Frazier, Ali was older than Frazier and had taken more punishment in hisc career than Frazier.
He beat Young, and was well past his best when he did it.

It wasn't the first thing he got away with either.
