Last time he fought for the international masters title in nov and got stopped in the 5th round against steven pearce ( I was at the fight ). I'd heard he had retired after that fight but hav also heard since he might carry on. So not sure pal

surely if they won a purse bid for gethin v crolla he wont be able to fight murray or anyone else?

He can but if a date isn't given to team gethin by the next board meeting or he wud forfit his mandatory position

Ah I seem I remember him and dean Harrison doing ok on the same cards and Always wanted to see that fight ,local derby , looking back Deano would of handled him I think

Imo deano was mismanaged and rushed into fights he didn't need at the time. He wud hav stopped hunt no problem.

I liked Deano, twice went the distance for the English, the first time v Haywood he was unlucky, I remember he took a British title shot on a couple days notice and got hammered, never the same again, and he fought and got stopped by Alvarado , by the time he fought in prizefighter v john Watson you see by his face and condition the game was up.

Wasn't Gethin v Crolla supposed to be on Froch card? And Hearn has said Crolla V Murray going to be announced tomorrow. The British titles aren't defended nearly enough

Yes they were surposed to b on froch groves1 but martin had a injury. Wen did hearn say that then. I hav heard him say its a fight he liked.

agreed mate, especially as Dean banged well to the body, and Hunt never seemed to take the bodyshots too well.

good point i think Maley. it's a funny one. for a while the way Dean was built up it looked like his promoter was trying to build him gradually, get him gradually tougher tests (Gary Reid who he did very well against, then an African import, etc)

then like you say all of a sudden his level of competition went up- violently. and his results went down even more violently.

Yeah he was right up their in the rankings and took on paul mccloskey at days notice if I remember right was pm's last defence b4 he moved to euro level. If they had waited the division was wide open. Dean never seen the same fighter again imo.

I worked that fight with Errol, how Dean got up from the big left he took in 4th I think it was I'll never know, he was flat out for about 4 seconds then suddenly lifted his head off canvas and got up, but the writing was on the wall from that, tough kid and could bang to body like you said, but these chances come and the lads jump at the chance, IMO though I think the above comments are fair and he should of waited just that bit longer.

Hopefully they get Flanagan in there now can't seem to get a decent fight. Gethin for the British title is ideal for him to get himself back on track.

The African was alex brew, who had hunt down in the 1st 2 fights later

Saw gethins fb last night and matthews looks like the front runner for a shot at the british title. Tong borg was also talking up buckland on the status.

I think hes a perfect example of how geography effects boxing.

Unfortunatly with the larger promoters concentrating on the north west and london the midlands is often passed by. Theres talented kids from our area but without a tv promoter most seem to hit a glass ceiling around English title/British title level.

The chances obviously come along less (and always away) so have to be taken as and when they come.

Had some enjoyable times watching Dean locally, theres a few I can think of from the Midlands area that with a major promoter behind would have gone on to win British titles.

Spot on mate deano had a good following aswell. Chris male from dudley was matched with 4 unbeaten fighters at english tiitle level his managed by errol yes they are fights u have to win but wen fighters with the big promoters get their lads in with not journeymen but the. Lower end of the ranking fighters. One lad I remember won the english title against a guy who had lost a couple fights then defended his english title 3 times with out a mandatory and had a combined losses of 20 fights between them its a joke and their is lots more of examples like this.

Errol's done a lot for Black Country boxing and mustn't be knocked

I'm not knocking errol mate his a great bloke. Its the board that make the fights. Yes pj got a show 22nd march at the tower ball room. And jon p got one the 14th march at villa park.

Maley can u remember russ colley, only had five pro fights, I liked watchinghim , never saw him lose a round, then nothing, sam horton was ok to.

I remember the name colley but can't remember seeing him fight. Sam was a good lad in a tough division had wud hav had good payday off degale and pf.
