mcguigan would never have faced anyone as unorthodox as nas and his non stop come forward style would get picked off by jabs thrown from strange angles I can honestly see a prime nas stopping mcguigan

Are you saying Barry was protected?

Barry had a good chin and was a vicious body puncher but he would get blitzed by Naz. Far too much speed and power.

Naz by mid TKO or, ala McCullough, a wide, wide points win, for me.

Isn't any hypothetical including Naseem simply slave to the "If the opponent slips up" solution?

I would say....had Naseem been able to have seriously connected on Barrera (one of my all time favorite fighters), that fight would have gone another way. Simply because Naseem always has the loose cannon option in his favor.

Quite simply I believe he could knock any featherweight out IF he could lay a good shot their way.

So though McGuigan had a better skillset.....in my opinion it wasn't bulletproof ENOUGH in most cases.

If it goes the distance...they would likely hold up Barry's hand as they did Barrera's. However...Barry was not quite as good at keep his chin in safe harbor as Antonio. Barrera was one of the most cerebral featherweights ever. And a good ability to absorb a punch as well. Just what you need against The Prince.

I.M.H.O.

I can't see ol Finbar outpointing Hamed either. He'd make a real fight of it, but he'd be getting hit hard and often every round. He was hardly a defensive wizard.

In these type of hypothetical matchups there is never any accounting for the rules that the guys fought under at the time. McGuigan fought at the time of same day weigh ins. Hamed day before. A McGuigan weighing in the day before the bout would be a tougher proposition than the McGuigan from same day weigh ins. And vice versa Hamed weighing in on the same day would be a different Hamed(he now cites weight making as the reason he lost to Barerra). Both in my eyes would favour McGuigan.

If McCullough who only weighed 8-11 by fight time can have Hamed backing away a bigger stronger McGuigan would be too much. Paul Ingle gave Hamed all he could handle until Naz pulled in out of the bag. McGuigan's style was similar to Ingles but I can see Barry puling out the win in this one.

Just because Hamed disrespectfully says he would spanked McGuigan does not make it truth. Much like Mayweather saying the same about Sugar Ray Leonard. Hamed also said he would come back like a champion, just like Ali came back after a loss, and would beat Barrera in a rematch. We now know what a crock of shit that was.

The best of McGuigan beat an outstanding champion like Pedroza.....who in turn had beaten the best over a long period....so that should not be forgotten. I still think Barry has that signature win that Naz never delivered.

So it is closer than many people think in my opinion; especially as McGuigan was the master of constant and intelligent pressure. Barry stalked guys and broke them down with bodyshots, forcing them to fight at a pace they did not like and capitalising on them needing to throw punches to keep him off.

But I think that whilst it is close; Hamed just had the X-factor and would have kept Barry off him and landed a few more eye-catching punches as well. Naz was strong as well and that matters when you're facing a bull like McGuigan.

Didn't mean to imply that. Just that it was worth hearing the humble opinion of the man himself.

McGuigan's pressure -fighting style could squeeze the fight out of Hamed. Naz just wouldn't have the space to load up on his big punches - McGuigan was an excellent, gutsy inside fighter.

I'd give this to Barry.

Barry was a very good boxer who was hyped beyond his victories, he had some torrid struggles and it was his strength and fitness that made him. Naseem was an explosive puncher and he would have landed more than enough to put Barry out. The Pedroza victory was fantastic and Pedroza was all done by then.
