Heffron v Thain

I just wanted to give both those men a heads up for a very good fight. I'd seen Heffron box before a couple of times but not seen Thain; they were very well matched, in excellent condition and both came to win. I thought Thain had won by a couple of rounds, he seemed really sick at the result and hope he has a rest and comes back in. Well played to both boxers

Yes good post . I had Thain winning , however he was never going to get the decision down there if it was a close contest.Fwank isn't going to protect him away from home against a decent ticket seller and isn't not putting any shows on up here in Scotland so it will be very tough for Thain to get into title contention and become established at that level.

Fwank wasn't even there! Maybe the ref slightly preferred Heffron. Maybe the crowd helped swing the ref in a couple of the close rounds, there was only one point in it after all. I slightly preferred Thain and was very impressed with him. It's ironic the Scottish complaining after what used to go on on those dinner shows up there with that Paul Graham reffing.

The notion that Fwank had influenced the ref in any way is ridiculous. I know you are loyal to Graham, so expected a reply from you, but men like Johnny Rocco have more or less walked away from the game after what he did.

nothing to do with loyalty , i just hate your wee sly digs at scottish boxing and that are just tiresome and boring , again you need to get the chip off your shoulder .

I have no problem whatsoever with Scottish boxing, I just said I liked Thain! You're paranoid, man.

I had Thain winning by 3 round plus a point off for Heffron.. Some rounds were close if your scoring on volume of punches. Heffron hardly landed anything all night and Thain was very accurate. The fight was not close. Thain won clearly was one of the clearest Robberies I have seen. I prefer aggression on scoring boxing so that's generous to Heffrons work. Good fight though styles mixed well. If Thain had power he would be unreal

Heffron looking nothing special at all after the early hype. A ticket seller and that is all.

Heffron does not use his head in the ring, he tries to smash through opponents and has not got a lot of power, can see him damaging his hands, he is there to be hit and loads up with everything, Thain won the fight on the jab and straight rights, but he has an amateur style, not adjusted to the pro's enough yet, but his footwork is good and what he lacks in power, he makes up for in accuracy and speed, he is also a clever fighter, took most of Heffrons shot on his arms and countered well, Heffron seems too hot headed in the ring and seems to switch off and feel sorry for himself when things are going wrong.

He wasn't there though, didn't even send Francis, George went instead, he promotes both anyway.

It was a close fight that could have gone either way, anything Thain did land had no power on it and I missed the first 5 rounds, but the 2nd half of the fight was even right the way through with Heffron landing well to head and body while missing a lot. Thain was accurate, but had nothing on his punches and Heffron threw more, but missed more, but he landed the heavier shots and while he missed quite a lot, plenty landed too. Maybe Thain deserved it more than Heffron, but by no means a robbery from what I saw.

I watched the whole 10 rounds and it could have been agreed before the bout that Heffron would be the more powerful and aggressive. The game is boxing and Ronnie was jabbed and countered all night, he was strong and effective for periods in the bout and Thain boxed away from the ropes for spells. A punch count would have been good; Heffrons corner certainly thought he was chasing the bout after the 6th and he didn't roll over Thain after that; at the bell Ronnie seemed less than positive while Thain thought he's won. I thought he'd won in a good fight between 2 well matched boxers with different styles and strengths - I'd watch a rematch.

Coz he has had a bad decision in his favour doesn't mean it is ok vice versa... Referee has a Job that can effect a fighters life/career... I have respect for all referee and judges as I know it could be a very hard job! I would make it clear though if I lost a fight and the referee said I won! Heffron knew he got beat! I feel so sorry for John Thain, such a nice humble guy and he been walked all over :(

Why was Heffron looking to his side constantly when Bobby Rimmer was talking to him between rounds ? It was getting on my nerves, never mind Rimmer. Was he talking to Liam Smith at Ringside ?

Heffron Seemed to have a problem outside the ring and was not listening to his corner, could of been Liam Smith they were supposed to fight before for an eliminator, Heffron pulled out, Smith wanted the fight later on but it did not happen, he even turned down other fights hoping it would still be made, maybe there was some aggro between them, did not Heffron threaten and disrespect Arnie Farnell, that caused their split after his loss to Vassell.

Credit to both lads for fighting each other did look a good fight on paper.
Had a look for the fight on youtube. Couldn't find it but saw an interview with ROnnie and he didn't sound to impressed by his performance. Said Selkirk may be next though.

He will get knocked out against Selkirk.
