At 147,how would this one go ? I see Breland winning the early rounds on workrate and using his height and reach but Benitez continuing to put more and more pressure each round and gradually becomming more effective as the battle wears on. I can see Breland putting Wilfred down, around the 8th but Benitez gets right up and keeps the pressure on and Breland would start fading by the 10th and providing this is a 15 rounder,i definately see Breland getting Tko'd in the 13th,or 14th round. I dont think he had that Extra late round stamina Benitez had. In a 12 Rd'er,this could go either way, could wind up a draw. I dont think Breland would go down in a 12 rd'er,but he likely gets stopped in a 15 rd'er,and maybe knocked down a couple times in those very late rounds as well. Probably doesnt get brutally ko'd,probably ref waves it off after too many unanswered punches. This fight would be almost similiar to Leonard-Hearns I.

Benitez schools Breland. Breland would not deal very well with Benitez movement. Breland was not hearns. Benitez UD.

If Marlon Starling who couldn't hardly hit Don Curry in 27 rounds could KO Breland then the Benitez who knocked Maurice Hope out with one punch and avoided Hearns' right hand missiles would have dealt with Mark. Breland was a very good hitter but pretty straight forward; Benitez was superb for a time.

I think Wilfred would've stopped Mark late, like anywhere from 11 to 13.Breland was a good fighter, but not the dominant force he was as an amateur.

This. The best Benitez was considerably better than the best Breland, who flattered to deceive a bit. The best Breland would best the lesser versions of Benitez who turned up from time to time, but a man who could test Leonard is too much for Breland.

In 1979, if Harold Weston Jr. could take Wilfred to the edge in a 'Nail-Biter' in Puerto Rico...........
Mark Breland would do the same..........and more.
When people post hypothetical fights, I always assume both at their best. In this case both at their best I pick Benitez to win a clear decision or even stop Breland.
If you want to be picky, then I pick the Benitez that stopped Hope over the Breland that was stopped by Marling. So there you go, now we have a definite winner. Benitez would do the same……..and more.
