Corrupt/inept British referees finally a story in the media

Well done George Groves. He is well aware he won't be the 'house fighter' and as such will be afforded no 'benefit of the doubt' from the classic British house referee. Curiously, Carl Froch, the champion and star fighter, seems very keen for another British official, those men famously 'queasy' when the underdog appears 'hurt', and yet not when the star fighter is down, or staggering around glassy eyed, or, in the case of Nathan Cleverly, semi-conscious and needing to be carried to his corner.

Please, as fair minded boxing fans who only want the best man to win, let us eradicate bias and corruption from British referees in British rings.

Typical Groves whinging again. He'll have Froch wear 16oz gloves next or the fight won't go ahead. Howard Foster is a very experienced referee who was acting on instinct and in the best interests of George Groves.

I can understand him not wanting Howard Foster again but to rule out all British officials is ludicrous and slightly paranoid :OhYes:

What by flying in corrupt also bias ref's from abroad.

Howard Foster is nether corrupt nor bias. He did what he thought was right at the time. I don't mind admitting at the time I thought it was an awful stoppage when watched live, but in the subsequent replays I have seen far worse stoppages/decisions from ref's all across the world.

It's far easier to corrupt foreigners than domestics. Don't shit on your own doorstep springs to mind.

He should be thanking Foster not insulting him like this. If that fight would have been allowed to carry on he'd have been sparked, instead he gets the questionable stoppage & a big payday rematch!

All referees can have a bad day or make an error, it's a hell of a job. Stop too early & you've denied a fighter a fair chance, stop it too late & some fighters ends up badly hurt.

To say that only domestic refs can have a bad day or feel they are all conspiring against him in Froch's favour is laughable.

I think Foster saved Groves career with the stoppage.

If Groves had been allowed to continue there is a good chance Froch's face would of continued to pummel Groves fists that the damage caused would of been career threatening.

No British official should be anywhere near a proper World title let alone this fight. As quite simply they're incompetant

Talk about exaggeration.
Bias, corruption - Jesus Christ I would need a toilet roll to list all the questionable stoppages ABROAD in the last 3 years.
Maybe it was a little early but better 10 seconds early than 20 seconds too late in my humble opinion.
It divided fans straight down the middle. In other words one in two thought it was the RIGHT decision.

Though ABROAD is a very big place; I wonder how many bouts are stopped questionably for the 'away' fighter - most iffy stoppages seem to me to favour the 'home' fighter.

So you class Froch as the home fighter ?
The point is Palooka some deluded people seem to think the answer is to bring refs in from abroad. Joke.

Looking at the long run what a great decision it was for Foster to stop the the fight early from a business and promotion side, him doing that has made the rematch the biggest fight in our generation and most talked about. He should get to judge the 2nd fight.

By 'home' fighter I meant the boxer under the promotional banner that is 'hosting' the bout, I've seen bouts where the referee is clearly partial to one fighter over another and more often than not they are the 'home' boxer.

I can appreciate that we have some British refs that are among the best around but this bout has to have an element of impartiality and if a foreign ref does that then all well and good.

(The recent bout with Gavin Macdonnell and Leigh Wood was a cracking bout, the judges weren't needed and Gavin is from Doncaster as were 2 of the judges - that shouldn't happen).

George is out of order talking about our ref's and not wanting any of them refereeing this fight. The Board need to stay strong and not bow down to his request. They stood down on the Burns fight where no British Official was allowed to be a ref or judge for that fight last Saturday.

We have some of the best Ref's in the World, who go through the hardest route to become a star referee, taking up to 15 years at a time to make the top grade, nowhere else in the world do ref's going through this training.

Nowhere in the world do refs get as much work in the ring as in Britain, so when it comes to experience there is no one to match our officials. Yes the US have a couple of good Ref's, but everywhere else the standard is very poor.

This fight to bring some respect back to our British officials needs to be all British Ref and Judges, it’s in our own back yard let’s use the best we have. Can you imagine the yanks not using American officials on a big fight in New York with two of their top boys I don't think so, so why should be give in to this request.

If it happens some of the British officials will think why do I bother if my own board don't back us, we have the best in the world, OK the last time maybe it was stoppeed a bit early but who knows. Look at Frouch v Bute the American ref there was so bad stopped the fight, Eddie Hearn in the ring, then decides to count, so no they are no better than our guys in fact worce.

Lets get our best 4 guys out as ref and judges and show the world how good we are.

Groves was well on the way to getting one of the biggest shaftings ever seen in a British ring during the last fight...I'm not surprised he is a little sceptical

Howard Foster came into the fight with the idea in his head that he needed to 'rescue' Groves from a battering.

He has been a good referee in the past but he messed up badly last time out. A terrible stoppage and he officiated poorly throughout the fight.

In no way is this Froch's fault & people who have turned against him because of the ref doing a bad job are just as bad as the ref.

As for British refs in general, they're among the best in the world.

I presume you mean the scorecards as they stood at the time, and that is a good and valid point :TU:

If the fight had been the exact reverse, with Groves on his arse and staggering backwards as he got up in the first round I suspect it would've been stopped swiftly thereafter. And the post fight narrative of 'warrior Froch shut the loudmouthed upstart up like he said he would' would have deafened those claiming it an early stoppage.

If the fight had gone into the 9th and Froch was on the receiving end, it would not have been stopped at that point. No chuffing way. With baubles attached.

I'm sorry, nice chap that HF may well be, that suggests an inherent bias.

I agree neutrals should be placed but sometimes you just have to be realistic.

I think from memory, McDonnell was behind on points at the time of the stoppage so at least he wasn't given any favours in that respect.

Well said. His mind was made up before the first bell rang that George was in danger of getting hurt & he had to save the boy.

What stoppage in any world level fight was worse than the Froch vs Groves stoppage in the last three years?
