Ok,

I'm going to this as i have a mate fighting in it,

But genuinely i'm only going for that reason alone, so my question is......

What kind of standard should i be expecting at these events? i have never even been to this kind of show before so i have no clue what to expect.

No worries if no one knows, just thought i'd throw it out there as its new to me

Very mixed standard, but I've been to about five and seen some really great fights and some very good boxers. Obviously there are bad ones. I'd say you'll definitely see a more entertaining fight than a lot of pro fights.

Not sure of the quality of the boxing but I thought I'd recommend the Titty Bar upstairs at the Circus Tavern. There's usually some decent crumpet up there, although some can be a little too pushy in asking for a dance.

I usually give them the line that I play professional rugby league for the Dewsbury Rams. They've no idea if I'm telling the truth or not but it usual results in them hanging around and letting me feel their arse for free.

decent? at the circus tavern? not sure about that mate.........but i'm prepared to see for myself so i guess i'll pop up there if the boxing is crap.

There are a lot of people on this thread who are anti white collar / unlicensed / semi pro etc. and most of them have never been to such a show !

It would be good to hear your thought after the event - in terms of entertainment and value for money etc. as well as the actual level of talent.

Have you been to a "regular" small hall licensed pro-show that you could use to compare ?

Not really mate no, i've been to quite a few small events but i'd include stuey hall v wale at the dolphin centre in Darlington in that so i think its unfair to compare with that.

had a good night down there!!! It was nothing like i expected and better than i thought it would be.

My guy (Dan Compton) ended up with a draw which i thought was a fair result,

FAO Renegadeboxing - mustafa elkidirmi - deserved his win and looked good with fast hands and good movement.

Another kid that stood out was a young lad called Ben Jones - looked really good with an all out aggressive style, picked his shots well and packed a lot of power.

I must say it was a great night had by all

I do love that you said there were "a lot of people on this thread who are anti white collar / unlicensed / semi pro etc", when before you posted there were a grand total of three participants.

As I said earlier there are many people of this site (not necessarily thread ....) who have a (mostly) negative view of these events - whatever name is attached.

I have never been to an event like this so it is interesting to get your opinion.

To be honest, if I was going to a "boxing show" that wasn't one of the big shows I think that I would rather go to a show such as this rather than an equivalent BBBofC licenced small hall show where I could pick all winners in the red corner with some degree of accuracy.

Dan Compton is he the one who's a teacher for his day job? Seem to recall a Dan who was a teacher who fought there but don't recall his last name.

Mustafa is out again this Saturday, in a prizefighter event, semi and a final, had 2 on the queensbury last Saturday, so were pretty busy

Good stuff, glad he is busy,

He looked a class above to be fair, took a few shots from memory but never looked troubled. He has good movement as well, i was quite surprised at the standard of some of the lads fighting that night some decent boxers on show.

Anyway, hope he does well he has a good style about him

Dont be mistaken! The home fighter usually wins at these too. Of all the shows I've been to at the Tavern, the away fighter won once against a 40-something who was having his first fight. If you shift 120-140 tickets every 6 months or so, they dont want you to start losing fights.
