Is it me, or is Danny Williams overrated? I saw his fight the other day and he looked bad against what allegedly.tv are calling a 'credible' opponent. If Audley had fought that idiot in his fifth fight people would say he was a bum. But Danny, who turned pro in 1995 fights him in his 34th fight and people think he's credible?

So many performances over the past couple of years have been awful. Williams vs Sprott 1 he was taken to the 8th round by somebody who had been on holiday til 6 days before. He struggled to go 12 rounds by Keith Long who fights like once a year and had less then a dozen fights at the time. Then loses to Sin Samil Sam who looked like he ate more burgers then I do. In Sprott vs Williams 2 Sprott was way ahead then Williams had to repeatedly hit him in the nads to secure victory.

Yet somehow everybody (including him) talk about how quality he is, how he has a great chance to get a world title, and even once before he retired that he could fight Lennox Lewis. To be honest, I just don't see what is so good about him. People talk of Audley Harrison being overrated, but I can't see how somebody who so many fans think is awful can be classified as overrated. However Danny is supposed to be good, I can't see how he is.

Anyone agree?

Yes. And next time he fights, watch how many right hands he throws...

He didn't seem to be throwing many right hands on Thursday night. He was getting beaten all over the ring for two rounds, then he had a quick flurry to be given the victory be retirement.

I've NEVER rated Danny.

Plodding, predictable and with a crippling lack of self belief.

If he'd been born in Lubbock we'd scarcely have heard of him on the world stage.

It's pitiful that he's going down the Kandelaki-WBU route, which he turned down a couple of years ago as it was 'beneath him'.

If he wins (and it's a sizable 'if') can we expect 12 defences against aged cruiserweights?

Because Williams has this kind of relaxed, languid, smooth looking style people confuse this with talented.

He is not world class, does not have the talent to be world class and never ever will be world class.

I think that big lumbering giant (who incidentally gets my vote for ugliest boxer on the other thread) was a couple of good shots away from taking Williams out of there on Thursday in the first couple of rounds.

Some of us "experts" have Ricky Hatton down as world class Has this been proven yet?
Even Richard Williams was feted as world class in some quarters.

If Uncle Frank can secure Danny a real title fight..Maybe he can prove everyone wrong. I think he can if his mind is finally straight, and Danny realizes that he does have a god given talent. A 100% Danny Williams would give any heavyweight in the world nightmares. 8)

It's all subjective, and we all have our own opinions..which is why this forum is "the daddy"

Danny's a really nice guy and I would like to see him win a WBU title to have something to show for his waning career (as little as it means). I once gave him a lift in my old mini and I swear the car was close to tipping over. He's a big guy.

I've met him too and he came across as a very nice man, I would love to be proven wrong, really I would.

World class talent?

He has relatively fast hands for a heavy, that's it.

Someone tell me what else he does that shows world class talent?

He's in a class of his own for the number of trainers he's had. Well, him and Johnny Tapia.

DW - Comes accross as a thoroughly nice fella but no way is he a world class fighter, and thats at a time when even the so called world class heavyweights are pretty poor.

If was was going to do anything the in the heavyweight division, he'd have done it by now.
