& no, I'm not just posting this 'cos I'm bitter that I've just realised he's only 31, though that did come as a shock 'cos I thought he was older than me.

Anyone know if bits of him are still rotting & falling off, btw (all those staph infections he had a few years back, I'd search myself but I'm scared it'll show me pictures... Of Kelly's tattoos)?

It's really sad what's happened to Pavlik. That Hopkins defeat seemed to tear him apart mentally and seems to of been a trigger for his downward spiral.

Good luck to Pavlik, hope he emerges out the other side.

He's an alcoholic. That's about it. It's irrelevant his former occupation. It can happen to anyone and if Kelly has neither the balls or inclination to fight it, it will destroy his life and ultimately kill him.

I thought he'd moved away from his hometown to give himself a better chance of living healthily; he is a cult figure and local hero in Youngstown and people like to be around him and buy him beer - it makes it 10 times as hard to stay off the booze.

It doesn't. He's wealthy and there are shops everywhere. Its a personal choice.

Sadly alcoholism affects a lot of people, but some people are plain nasty on the stuff. Pavlik has been dogged with stories of his drunken behaviour even before challenging Taylor for the title. He was in front of a judge only a couple of months prior for hitting someone outside a bar, and it was only the fact he had a world title shot very soon that made him escape jail time.

On another occasion he was "repairing a window" and his hand "accidentally" went through it. Then another time he punched a kitchen door window in and tried to drag his brother in law through it or something and was arrested.

I don't know if Pavlik was some terrific talent who tore through Miranda and Taylor - and then hit the skids. Or if he was 'decent' and over-achieved on account of Miranda being more fragile than we first thought, and Taylor being weak at 160 at that point to go past 6 rounds effectively.

Regardless, lets hope he regains some sort of control before he has anymore terrible tattoos.

He was certainly a terrific Puncher , Hopkins Bedazzaled him though

Neither on the bolded bit mate, he was a big strong lad with a huge heart, a decent chin & a heavy punch. That was enough to beat JT, who had mucho natural athleticism & "tools" as they say but a really low ring IQ. & Miranda, yeah, people get blinded by punchers & refuse to see their faults (see also: early Nigel Benn, current Deontay Wilder) until they meet someone who doesn't fold & keeps dinging 'em back. Pavlik, to his credit, was the boy who didn't fold & kept dinging him back.

Just my tuppennyworth on that, I don't think Pavlik was a great or anything but he deserves to be thought of as a solid, credible, genuine champion. All this "nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah, he was always shite" don't sit well with me. He gave a younger, less shopworn Martinez a lot more to think about than JCCJr did, despite taking an utter pasting down the stretch.

& also: I don't think Hopkins could've done that to Pavlik at that point at middleweight. I don't think B-Hop at that stage could get down to 11st 6 & fight like that. It was a blunder of epic proportion to fight the old man at his most comfortable weight, when it was clear from the Taylor rematch Pavlik was a diminished force above middle (due to having physiological advantages when boiled down, imo, carrying the weight suited him well).

That's just revisionist. At the time of the Hopkins fight. Almost all of us were fearful for the old mans health.

Yes we were, because we didn't realise just how much Hopkins had left at the higher weight, surely? Remember how everyone thought he was through post Taylor II?

Or did you mean that it's revisionist to look back at Pavlik & think "he was really good at middleweight but not so much cop at a higher weight"?

Not starting or nuffink, I'm genuinely easily confused on Thursday afternoons...

PS: The not-so-good-at-a-higher weight thing actually comes from my old man, who after watching the Taylor rematch with me (about a month after it happened) went "That white boy needs to stick at middle. You can see he's not the same fighter higher up." If only I had listened to him, I could've made a few quid on the Hopkins fight. If only Kelly could've heard him, maybe he'd have not taken the fight... I should have made it clearer that, yeah, my opinion on that fight now is with the benefit of hindsight, sorry. But my old man, it turned out, was right all along.

His story is going to make a great, Oscar worthy biopic someday.
