Hypocrisy of a boxing promoter

In his column today, Fwank is calling for fighters who deliberately don't try to make the weight for a title fight (he is talking about Fielding) to basically be shot at dawn by the board. He says its just not on.
Fair enough.
How about the practice - and he's not alone in this - of bringing in fighters from lower weight divisions to face his unbeaten prospects ? To me that is worse. It is a deliberate, calculated attempt to stack the deck in favour of your own fighter. So, if you've got a super middleweight prospect you're building, match him with blown up middleweights. If you have a talented welterweight, you bring in a blown up lightweight.
Not to mention the advantage your fighter has when he's had a full training camp, against the opponent who gets 2-3 weeks notice.

Bunny is right about both fielding and his trainer absolute disgrace to the sport disrespecting the title the opponent and most of all the paying public and what about Hearn telling fielding to eat his breakfast on the day of the weigh in if he was struggling he too is a disgrace I have never been a fan of Bunnys but he is right in this case

I always imagined the weight limits were to ensure a fair fight between similar sized men; what have the board said about it?

He is right, but the wider picture is that he - and the others - will gladly, quite deliberately book a fighter outside of his natural weight division, as cannon fodder for his own fighters.
What's the difference ? Fielding clearly gained a physical advantage last week, by not bothering to hit the weight limit. But for a promoter to slag him off for it, when the promoter books lighter-weight fighters time and time again against his own fighters, is the height of hyprocrisy.
That's all :)

"It shows the scant regard some modern fighters place upon the multitude of titles that presently exist. Whilst both Salido and Fielding were stripped of their belts, far more stringent penalties are required to prevent anarchy."
I'm not sure how you've interpreted this as a call for fighters to face a firing squad

I was being silly with that comment; obviously he hadn't said that or been that extreme. He was just on his high horse a bit too much for my liking.

All promoters are guilty of bringing undersized fighters onboard for their prospects though. It's wrong though.

Yep, I'm not saying its just him, I thought it was a bit rich of him to make a meal of the Rocky Fielding situation last week. That was a one-off, I think the worse thing is if you do it systematically, as a ploy when handling fighters. Like you say, they all do it. If Warren thinks what Fielding did was dangerous, then he should match fighters against opponents of equal weight class.
Buglioni's next opponent is a career middleweight who fought our 154 pounders Ryan Rhodes and Jamie Moore on previous visits to the UK. Buglioni is a big powerful super middleweight and they're deliberately bringing in a smaller guy to get flattened. That is how the sport works, whether we like it or not. If you're deliberately booking guys like that though, should you be getting on your high horse and slating Rocky Fielding ?

Buglionis opponent is signing to fight a Frank at an agreed weight. He knows what it is. If Frank comes in half a stone heavier, he's a disgrace. You can't defend what Fielding did.

Don't torture yourself Jim Jim - just don't read the column. I try not to, unless I want a serious irony overload.
I don't know how much FW pays this newspaper to peddle his drivel. I am sure he also pisses himself every Saturday morning when he reads what somebody has written for him.
Every week it's the same, but sometimes you can read it and just think "whaaaaaaaaaaaat?" - the guy has no shame.
It is just a plug for his TV channel and his fighters, and an opportunity to slag off any other fighters (especially any of his ex-fighters).

Out of interest, does anyone know what Fielding weighed on the morning of the fight ?

Cheers, I feel like I've got it out of my system

Exactly, if you agree to fight a guy in a higher weight class how is that the other promoters fault, but to agree to a weight limit then find out the day before the fight your opponent is nowhere near the weight is very poor. If your business rival does something like I think its fair game to attack him for it,

Aye, him moaning about racism a few weeks ago also seemed too sanctimonious and fairly hypocritical.

He's taken swipes at Eddie's shows which had rows and rows of empty seats, yet his shows are sometimes like that. the mutual dislike manifests itself in some weird ways at times. he has to know that letter "signed" by ricky burns is a fake - the content of the letter just beggars belief - yet he's put it into the public domain. that was a pretty low thing to do

If it was one of his fighters it would be a different tune.
