I JUST WATCHED A DOCUMENTARY ON HIM. HE HAD VERY CONTROVERSIAL LIFE. HE WAS CHAMPION AND CRIMINAL AND GREW UP DIRT POOR IN ARKANSAS AND THEN ST. LOUIS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I COULD GET A LIST OF THE CRIMES HE WAS CONVICTED OF? THIS WOULD BE INTERESTING. ALSO, THERE IS GREAT CONTROVERSY AS TO HIS AGE. THERE HAVE BEEN RUMOURS AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH IN 1970 THAT HE WAS 55 YRS OLD, OTHER THINK THAT ESTIMATE IS TO HIGH. WHAT CRIMES WAS LISTON CONVICTED OF AND HOW OLD WAS HE? PLEASE POST......

And he wasn't 55 when he died. He is in the 1940 census as a 10 year old, he was born around or about 1930.

He was in fact listed as 10 in the 1940 census and even if that info is wrong it wouldn't be 15 years wrong, it would be one or two. Sonny Liston was definitely born circa 1930 there is no doubt about it.

There's a good book about Liston called 'Night Train'; it's a good read. Liston was a very good fighter and a fearsome man; he was used by people his whole life. He was neither a hero or a criminal though he did some heroic things and broke some laws. He was an uneducated black man in a racist and bad time to be an uneducated black man; he played his hand the best he could.
