There aren't really many British heavyweight journeymen about, not really the sort of weight anyone would want to be a journeyman at, the only two really are Paul Butlin, who he's beaten already and Shane McPhilbin, who's fighting Butlin in May. They could have gone for a blown up cruiserweight, but there aren't many cruiserweight journeymen about and of them, almost all are blown up light heavies. That leaves the only option to go for an international opponent and if it's short notice, getting hold of someone who's at the right weight and ready to fight, then sorting flights out for them at a couple of days notice might be difficult.

He should be at the stage now where he doesn't need to fight joyrneymen he's had 17 fights.

Michael Sprott or even Larry O would represent the step up the guy defo needs.

as for journeymen what about Moses matouvo ? but as said above he should be moving on now and fighting some others around the British top twenty five. it seems too many heavyweight prospects are avoiding each other.

Matovu fought on Monday, I'm not sure whether the board would allow him to have 2 fights in 5 days and Cornish already beat him 18 months ago.

I suspect they have good reason to be scared of putting him in with someone who might beat him, more journeymen means more money for them, stepping up and a defeat doesn't.

Moses is a small cruiser!

I'm sure when Davie Drummond stopped Matovu in a round that was down at LHW,not certain though

I think Davie was giving way weight

Davie stopped him in the 2nd giving away close to a stone.. Was a very good stoppages Moses is as tough as they come

Yeah i was at that show,went to get a drink at the bar after the previous fight finished,came back 10 minutes later and Davie's fight was over they were pouring the fights out thick and fast that night,i ended up back at the party Ronnie threw in some club,great night

On a sidenote i hope Davie gets out soon

I don't get why his team should be protecting him, he's fighting in the Ironwork's in Inverness, probably good for 300 punters at most. Even if he loses a few fights he will still fill the Ironworks no problem. He is the only pro fighter in this neck of the woods.

I really don't see him being good enough to have a chance at the British tbh.

What about Alistair Chisolm and Scott Ross?? They are both Professional and box out of Inverness.

I know even with a couple of losses he might still sell out the Ironworks but that isn't big enough money to pay for decent opponents to bother coming up for. The amount it costs to run shows is high, you need at least 3 fights before it can be judged as value for money (even then it you can't guarantee that)

I think you'll be lucky to see Gary box much more in Inverness but that's only my opinion!!
