I really enjoyed his book, excellent read. Used to see him knocking about at shows in the 90s all the time, does anyone know who he trained or managed? I have it in my head he had some involvement with Dean Pithie, did I imagine that?

No, he did co-manage Pithie (with F rank Warren) and must have lost all his hair in the process because Pithie would rather go out on the pop than train whereas Charlie, as a fighter, lived for training. Magri used to train even when he was ill.

Many thanks....I wrote that book with Charlie....had a great time interviewing him and piecing together his life and career.
Charle always said that Matthew Barney was a totally different animal in sparring, with a cracking right hand, and a bit of a larrikin to boot. Said he could never understand his negative fighting style, when he loved a tear up during sparring.

Yes, he said Pithie was rather hard to control.

I watched him training in the flesh and couldn't believe he was the same fighter. He genuinely had a lot of talent.

Was Matthew Barney discriminated against because of his background? I remember him saying he felt so.

Used to love watching Charlie on Sportsnight. Good to see him on Ringside last night as well. Could have done with more Magri, less Danny Dyer. Didn't see the point of having him on the show.
