The aba have changed it now I think you can box til you are 42, evans won the proper national title no masters title and there are now calls for him to be sent the commonwealth gamesbripez wrote:What are the age restrictions ?Michael bennt wrote:And wins the welsh national title! I thought that over the age of 34 you could only box other boxers who are also over the age of 34 - the "masters" division never took off.
I am sure in England that this is the case and a boxer over 34 cannot enter the ABA's etc. - not sure if it is different in Wales ?
He is no younger than 37 I read a few articles saying 37 some saying 38Coco wrote:Kev is 34
He is my mate, I know how old he isMichael bennt wrote:He is no younger than 37 I read a few articles saying 37 some saying 38Coco wrote:Kev is 34
No but u read several interviews with the man himself and he claims he is 37 so I believe i themcrusader wrote:Maybe those sources are wrong? Do you believe everything you read?
The Welsh use birth certificates, etc don't they?bripez wrote:A 2minute google search brings up a number of articles from the last Commonwealth games from 4 years ago - Sky Sports, the Daily Mail and Wales online etc - and they all have his age as being 34 and that was 4 years ago.
I am not the best at maths but .........
Funny how he has always been 34 which coincidentally is the upper age limit for competing.
I may be wrong, but doesn't he also come from a community that isn't big on paperwork like birth certificates etc. so this is difficult to prove _ not to mention that these days anybody asking the question will be accused of being racist or something.
Will they abia allow him to compete in the commonwealth games at 38? Or is there a ruling against itblackbenson wrote:hes 38 and won the welsh elite championships. but against novice opposition wether he will be able to compete at the top level again is very doubtful but all the best to him if he goes i hope he medals
Don't think it would be down to the ABA, the Welsh ABA control the selection, but the tournament is presumably organised by some sort of Commonwealth body, or the AIBA.Michael bennt wrote:Will they abia allow him to compete in the commonwealth games at 38? Do you think Evans will get selected then? Surely he at least deserves a box of for the right to gobigped wrote:Michael bennt wrote:Will they abia allow him to compete in the commonwealth games at 38? Will he appeal, sure he has almost a right to go there? Surely he has passed the qualifying criteria.
Isn't that a bit like a Dwain Chambers getting the qualifying time and winning the AAA's and then not being selected.
I guess what the WABA are thinking is maybe he hasn't shown the greatest loyality to the sport over the last 3 years domestically and perhaps thought his entry in this years competition was a bit taking the piss over the standard who have been fighting regular and trying to get the spot.
However, if that's the case then sure the WABA could have not allowed him to participate in the first place.
In essence what Kevin has done could be compared to what Ronnie O Sullivan did last year... retire comeback for the big one and then win it with ease. Ronnie's win last year didn't look good for the sport as a whole and the general standard and that must be why the WABA have done a two finger salute. Although, they should have not allowed him entry as this was always a likely scenario given how poor the Welsh Super Heavies are.
Kevin could win that tournament one handed and not trained for the next 10 years - unless someone comes out of the blue with a bit of real talent.
