Louis vs Braddock

Just watched Louis-Braddock again. I scored it even up to the fatal 8th round. That move by Louis batting away Braddock's left and shooting over the right was a thing of beauty. Considering that Braddock was at least 6' 3" if not taller, I could see Louis doing that to Wlad Klitschko.

I never saw that fight. But do you think its possible that Louis may have carried him for a while? Just speculating. Apparently Louis and Braddock signed a contract stating that in exchange for Louis getting the title shot before number one contender Max Schmeling did, he'd guarantee Braddock 10 percent of his purses for the rest of his career, or so I've heard.

Watch the fight and decide yourself. No way was Louis carrying anybody, especially after getting decked by a perfect right uppercut in the first round.

Agree with you Cap, Braddock was not going out without giving everything he had...and he did.

Louis called him on his courage. One of the most genuinely fought championship fights of all time.

No mercy asked for, none given...on either side.

From the offer that Braddock gave to Louis, and the sincerity of both men's efforts, a great respectful relationship was born. At a time it was a great bit of human leadership honestly demonstrated, and I think it was both needed and appreciated by the country. Perhaps the world.
