…of a British or Irish fighter?

It's often the punch that produces the most spectacular knockouts.

Names that come to mind for me are

Henry Warton
Wayne Alexander
Ensley Bingham
Pat Barrett

Pat and Ensley definitely rank with the best. Henry Cooper's left hook was great. Whilst not up there with the very best, Mike Gomez had a wicked shot.

Good shout on both of those, I miss watching Gomez fight.

Some good names already; I'll throw Kevin Lueshing and Garry Delaney (at light heavy) in there, Barry McGuigan had a cruel left hook and so did Bruce Scott.

Yes, Gary was the best at his age and weight and if an opponent got through 3 rounds with him it was a surprise and a victory of sorts. he went to a tournament in Finland or Norway and beat 3 good lads all by body punch knockouts in 2 days.

As soon as I read the first part of your post it was Bingham and Barrett that sprang to mind and I'd forgotten about Warton, so all great calls. Paul Hodkinson also used to have a good one on him, though he wasn't a one-punch KO artist like the others.
As for best hook thrown against a British or Irish fighter, surely SRL's against Dave Boy Green has to be right up there? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpcznXrArR0

That's a paddlin'

I'd heard about that fight but I'd never seen the KO before. Leonard was vicious when he was going in for the kill.

The shot that Kenny Vice KO'd Jim McDonnell with must be a contender in that category too. Can't find a video of it online.

You're absolutely right, the vice KO was a brutal one, just the shine taken off it for me as jim was shot after the nelson fight

Vice KO is a nasty 1 he caught him with the perfect shot, vice fought chavez but couldn't really dent the legend, I'm sure he had an ill fated bout that may of effected his later performances.

When you speak to sparring partners of bingo they say he hit like thunder and his power was terrifying in his left hook.

Was scrap iron Ryan a left hooker? I can't remember

I remember pat Barrett KO over a Scotsmen that was a huge shot

Coincidently his nephew Zelfa just scored a huge KO with left hook yesterday in ABA regional semi finals he was the talk of the show afterwards, he is 60KG

He's Scottish. He resides in the Virgin Islands for tax purposes. And he wants an independent Scotland, just like his fellow tax exile Sean Connery.

Good one.

Nice to hear Des Lynam commentating there, a lot less overexcited and verbose that some of the of the people doing it these days.
