Anthony Joshua Nexts Fights May 31st

On the undercard of Froch Groves.
I'll be honest, he didn't sound like he had a 'niggling injury' (that his promoter stated elsewhere) when I saw his interview with KC but it's not a big deal at this stage of his career.
Who do you think would be an ideal opponent at this stage of his career?
Obviously he's not going to fight anyone too dangerous but a 'name' on a bill with 80,000 people is a must. Especially now that Mitchell is not fighting for a World title.

This will be fun. No doubt he will once again be matched with some 6ft, 19 stone fat flabberman that cannot move or fight and who will go down within two rounds without landing a blow.
Can't wait.

What are you expecting Ian? Joshua only had limited fights. Are you expecting and top contender? Give the lad a chance for fcuk sake. Who will you be fighting on the bill that night?

Sexton or McDermott , fury boxed McDermott in his 6th or 7th fight and he's not an Olympic gold medalist ! If Joshua so good why can't he box someone like that ?

Fury probably lost too, so maybe it's not such a great idea after all.
To be honest I reckon Joshua would beat McDermott at this stage but there's no rush. Now is their opportunity to get him some rounds and experience before he gets on the English, British, EBU title treadmill, so he doesn't fall into the same trap Price did. As I've said before I'd like to see him in with some of the trickier American journeymen who will extend him and force him to think a bit.
That being said, Wembley in front of 80k is not the place to be chasing Zack Page around the ring. For this fight they probably want to find someone who looks the part and will go 2 or 3 rounds.

I am a big fan of AJ but this is his third pull out in five months
he is a sick note like David Haye as they both train so hard!!!

I'll fight anyone you like, they won't know what hit them.

;;-)
I don't expect a top contender but I do expect someone that can actually put up some resistance. Not only is bombing people out in a round or two teaching Joshua next to nothing it is also short changing the punters.

Not quite but he does need stepping up levels. Joshua is a very good fighter with a very good amateur background there is no point in him just turning up and bowling over people vastly inferior.
I've seen comments on this site saying Joshua is already the best British heavyweight and would beat Tyson Fury tomorrow (not my words), and I wouldn't disagree too strongly with that view such is Joshua's class. He needs more of a test.

Jason Gavern, Brian Minto, James Toney, Matt Skelton, Sam Sexton, Michael Sprott, Martin Rogan, John McDermott.
Someone half decent.

There was talk in the post fight interview that his next fight will be an 8x3 which is about due in his development because we all need to see what happens when he drops someone and they ett back up and whether he can put someone tough and durable away. I was thinking along the lines of a Zack Page or Nicolai Firtha. While Page is smaller, Firtha is around the same size as Joshua at 6ft 6inches so would provide something a tad different to what has gone before.

Regular injuries are a worry they need to look at his training.

How realistic is Hughie Fury as an opponent? Not much power, face first aggression, will make for a very nice highlight reel KO for Joshua.

It would have been realistic years ago when there was talent in the heavyweight division these days the top 3 or 4 will not face each other unless there are titles at stake plus millions of pounds. At this stage there isnt millions of pounds!
The chit thats on offer for joshua in this country isnt there so why face Josh to get beat for a few thousand pounds? It purely does not make business sense yet.

I can see it happening. Audley was mates with Eddie, and even if this flops (which it will, in the first round, with Audley flat on his back once again) it won't spoil the occasion as the main event is what everyone has turned up for.
