Family lore has it that my grandfather (who was a USPHS doctor), at the age of 40, boxed the Louisiana Golden Gloves in the 40's or 50's. They don't make many like him anymore--apparently he was tough as nails--had to be to get in the ring with the kids at that age.
His name was Leon Saler. Not sure what weight class or how far he made it in the tournament--would appreciate any information on how I might be able to look him and/or the old records up...
