Never rated him as a pro and always though he got big fights and publicity of his amateur pedigree and his Emanuel steward connection, I pick Billy joe, Mathew macklin, Nick Blackwell and am gonna probably get stick for this but Chris Eubanks jr to all beat him up, lee got a gift last night over a career welterweight journeyman in Denmark

same here, i thought his party was over when he met craig mcqewan (spelling?) pity craig gassed out, would have saved us looking at him!

He's an average world level operator (if that makes sense). Good enough for world level, never quite good enough for a world title. Sort of in the Magee, Macklin bracket as in will give anyone a decent fight

I remember Craig Mcewan being tipped as next big thing. British, trained in US, dogs baleros of a fighter. Saw him live in Vegas night before Hatton Mayweather. I expected Barcelona and got Rushden Diamonds. He was so overated in the UK just because he was in wildcard.

I wouldn't rate him that highly. He's struggled multiple times with mediocre opponents and winning a few rounds against Chavez before getting stopped doesn't make him world level.

This thread reminded me of John Duddy.

He lost on points to Chavez and literally just jacked in.

He'd have been interesting for these mythical Irishman fights (that never happen)

absolutely spot on, he is hanging off kronk coattails. Not sure what ad booth saw in him, I see lee losing to many british mids including eubank jnr. He just eats far far too many shots. Good scrap would be lee v etches.

Lee is no where near fringe world level. Nice guy he may be but its not a popularity contest.

Duddy had sense to realise that he couldn't keep taking as many headshots as he was taking. He was a tidy boxer with a massive heart but he used his face as his defense. I'm glad he packed it in when he did. He was one step short of fighting for a world title which is a pity.

He could have been the next Mickey Ward or Gatti - with the slur to match.

He could have been that type of fighter, but at what cost to his health like you say.

Still, he is a short but interesting footnote in Irish middleweight history.

Duddy's fight with Smichet was ridiculous for the amount of head shots each guy took.

Pavlik/Duddy was on the cards at one point, would have been a fun first few rounds.
