Froch/Groves II: How you see the fight panning out

Is Groves going to try a different game plan?

I think Froch has to change his tactics from last time doesn't he?

One thing is for sure, Groves is still faster has better movement and can land heavy shots. Groves' stamina is still a little dubious, along with his chin.

Perhaps Groves should be in and out more, use his speed and combinations and win on points. Aka David Haye vs Valuev (kind of)

Froch needs to have a much tighter guard and be dominant on the jab more.

Its such a hard one to call.

How do you see the fight panning out? I think Groves can win this and probably will but it won't be such a one sided affair this time round.

The way I see it panning out is Groves initially panning Froch however his panning will lack planning and the fight will end with Froch panning Groves into submission.

Damn, I was going to say that I see Froch winning this one.

I thought I was making a bold prediction, but somebody got there first.

I see Groves being ahead after 7 rounds but Froch coming on strong late on.

Similar to the first fight essentially, but without Froch getting knocked down. I can't pick a winner, it's a case of how far ahead Groves gets and how good his stamina is going into the late which will determine how well Froch comes on late into the fight.

Groves is a bit of a perfectionist (which you get from working with Adam Booth). He improves his stamina and doesn't let Froch off the leash. UD or late stoppage

It's very easy to say 'improve your fitness' but it's not so easy to do to the level that it needs doing vs someone like Froch who in almost all his World title fights has been throwing hundreds and hundreds of punches. That's essentially why I don't see much of a change in this fight to the last one. Obviously the same goes in reverse with regards a 'Froch will improve his defence' argument, hence why I think the early part of the fight will be similar as well.

My prediction is similar to others I've seen on here so far. I think Groves is a far better boxer than Froch, much quicker, sharper, better variety of punches, hits just as hard and I have no real concerns over his chin.

The thing that I can't get away from though is the fact that Groves does seem to struggle with stamina late on and Froch whilst he doesn't get stronger than he was at the start of the fight seems to stay at the same sort of level, just keeps going and going like some four mile steeplechaser he just doesn't weaken and when the other guy does Froch wears him into submission.

Unless Groves has found a way to either conserve his stamina or to quite significantly improve upon upon it I think he is going to have to win early. From about round seven onwards I can only see Groves struggling with Froch's engine and the more tired he gets the more likely he is to get stopped.

If Groves had the same strength of endurance that Froch has I'd be calling a comfortable Groves win. As it is it's very much in the balance for me. Initially I said Groves would win a rematch but now everytime I think about it all I can see in my minds eye is Groves fading and Froch dominating later rounds.

I don't think Groves will let Carl off the hook, he'll box for openings and counter Carl hard. I don't think Groves will throw as many punches but 2 thirds of them will be power shots. Groves is moving into his physical prime and Carl is sliding out of his.

I think Groves wins this by stoppage. Probably around the 6th or 7th round.

I think Carl is getting slower and slower and Groves will just be way too quick for him. I also think Carl's iron chin is starting to weaken as well. He was badly hurt a number of times in the first fight and I think all of the wars he's been in will catch up with him on 31st May.

Groves tried to slug with Froch when he didn't need to, getting tagged

He is far more skilled than Froch and can box himself through to a points win

I wouldn't be surprised if Froch won either though

I think that stamina has a genetic component to it aswell. I dont think it's purely about working hard on conditioning. Some guys do just gas out quicker than others. I've seen some lardy looking boxers over the years that have great gas tanks.

I think a 6 pack is genetic as well; Carl's dad has got a 6 pack as well you know.

Think that groves will jump on Carl from the opening bell, don't bite my head off but this could be over in 3 rounds just think frosh must be a bit shopworn by now and groves is young and improving with every fight plus he not short of confidence.

Not too dissimilar to the first fight. All Groves until he gets stopped late.

Froch closes the show, he always does.

That's a very positive side of character and there are other aspects to him as well. I always imagined he was a straightforward character but he has different aspects to him, some warrior and some not.

whilst froch boxes wearily from the outside, groves controls the centre of the ring, as well as the pace of the fight, and builds up a wide lead. if carl gets too brave and comes forward before george is spent, his toughness and chin will lose out to groves' hand speed and power, and he gets put on his backside again. the entire fight hinges on george groves' stamina. if it holds, he'll win a wide UD. if it doesnt, he'll get stopped late. this time around, georges greater emphasis on conditioning, more discipline in the ring, along with carl froch not being able to apply pressure early for fear of getting tagged with something big, see groves emerge a clear winner

Having thought about it some more, I think Groves will stop Froch this time. Froch didn't take those huge right hands on purpose. He saw them coming but couldn't get out of the way of them, so don't see him him being able to prevent them this time. People seem to forget that for the first few rounds, Groves beat the hell out of him, and that must have had some impact on him. Can he take much again?

Froch normally gets to people because he has such long arms, but Groves has long arms too but is significantly faster.

Froch will fight to the very end I'm not sure Groves will be able to with stand the pressure. Also think Groves has a stamina issue. I'd love him to beat Froch though.

Breathing & being relaxed in the ring plays a HUGE part.

David Price came into the ring for Thompson II in great shape but he was so bloody tense he knackered himself out. Bruno would do the same thing but got (marginally) better.

I have no idea (as in the first bout).

I think Froch will jab more and he says he was mentally under-prepared but has time caught up with him?

Or does Groves just have his number?

In no way was the first fight anything near a correct stoppage. Foster thought, as did many, that Froch was superhuman in his strength & he had to protect Groves AS SOON AS HE LOOKED HURT. His heart may have been in the right place but he fucked up. It was a beautifully balanced fight and we'll not know the proper outcome because Foster wasn't mentally prepared to do the job.

Froch may have gone on to win. Groves may have gone on to win. We'll never know & that moment is gone.

Either way I like both fighters and hope that - no matter what the result - Groves goes on to have at least half the career Froch has so we'll have another world class British fighter to cheer on over the next 5-10 years.

Groves discipline like the first needs to be there for the full 12 rounds and he can win a handy points decision over Froch 100% but he will want to mix it up at some point and that will be to his downfall, Carl knows this, George knows he must not do this
