W@rren has always had a good 'relationship' with the WBO but Nr 1 contender status without facing a highly ranked contender is pushing it a bit IMO.

He's literally fought no one in their top 15

I know these "International" and "Inter-Continental" titles help get you ranked with the affiliated association, but Saunders being ranked number 1 is tough to fathom.

That position helps on the financial side of things / future options, but does BJS beat Quillan ?

And can BJS's promoter dig deep to bring the WBO champ over to the UK to create home advantage ?

I don't think he'll beat Quillan; I don't think Saunders has the power to cut it at real world level, he has European level skills and fitness and British level power; to be fair he has time on his side but he'll not beat any titlist at middleweight this year or next.

Do ratings actually matter anymore? Not sure I would have put Stuart Hall in top 10 bantams, or Martin Ward but both got shots at a world title. boxrec has Hall at 16 which I still think is very generous and yet he is a world champ...go figure...if the promoter has the influence and the cash to pay sanction fees you get the shot.

Yep you're right shots are bought and not fought for.

Out of interest, who would you have above him?

Lockett and Jennings got gifted WBO rankings being with Frank in the past, despite one sided affairs it was their biggest pay day, looks like a wide points win for Quillin if it did happen.

I think the Boxrec ratings have BJ Saunders rating a bit low at 22-he is better than Jarrod Fletcher I think, also beats lemiuex and the Dane neilson imo. I havent seen Shibata or Truax and a couple of the other guys in there but I think he beats Curtis Stevens and I think Murray and Mackiln might be a bit strong for him at the moment.

On saying that BJS is a very talented guy and I do feel is capable of winning a world title in the next 18 months-2 years with a bit of luck.

I meant Stuart Hall and his #16 boxrec ranking.

Shibata Vs Saunders would be interesting. I don't think Saunders hits any harder than Nakagawa (so we won't see Shibata get taken out quickly) but Saunder's would have the speed to match the Japanese and Oriental champion...be a pretty interesting one with Saunders winning competitively IMO.

Stevens would be a dangerous opponent but like you say I'd have Murray and probably Macklin ahead of him.
