Allway's seem that when fighters drop down then move up they lose resistance & get bashed.
You can name plenty who failed but not that were successfull

Anthony Mundine?
Guillermo Jones? (He certainly isn't a natural Cruiserweight)
Marco Huck?

I'm not 100% sure what this thread is about but Lou Gent went from mediocre domestic Cruiserweight to world title challenger at Super-Middle just by giving up chocolate biscuits (according to him, anyway).

I reckon you could class Scott Harrison is being successful and he was reported to have been serious about boiling down in weight. To a certain extent you could probably say Ricky Hatton too.

:o Jones didn't boil down, he's the other extreme of someone who went up massively in weight, as he started out as a welter!

He's boiling down in the fact that there is no way his frame should be anything but that of a Heavyweight.

Guillermo Jones is a freak of nature. Can't seem to find any videos of his beanpole welterweight days. He must have found it pretty natural to move up through the divisions back in the day but now he does have to boil down to cruiser I think.

here's a vid of him sparring with Kovalev.

An intriguing matchup that would be at cruiser. The irresistable force vs the immovable object!

So a Jones who's clearly comfortable at Cruiser to the extent that he quite clearly carries a bit of extra timber should actually be a Heavyweight?! :shame:

hey mate

i wouldn't be so sure that the presence of a bit of spare timber automatically = someone comfortable/not big at a particular weight

given some of the dramatic (assisted) draining routines modern guys can go through there have been a few fighters i could name who have both had to drain bigtime to get to a weight, but got there still with a bit of flab.

Toney being just one example.

Jones, to me, looks like a big 16stone man who shed water weight, but not fat, by nosebombing at the cruiser limit via diuretics.

having said that given Jones' bizarre trajectory, weightwise, i'd almost say he's been an exception to many rules where weight is concerned.

A guy who has some timber and is 6'3...6'4...yeah most guys who are 6'4 should be Heavyweights unless they are beanpoles.
