Lebedev v Jones 2

After a ridiculous swelling of the eye in the last bout, I can see Denis Lebedev reversing the result against Jones this evening
Jones was outstanding and Lebedev's injury was one of the worst I've ever seen
On BN tonight - a Friday bonus, should be a good fight

I've got Jones. I think the fight will go the same way as the first and Jones is going to make Lebedev expend a lot of energy while Guillermo stalks. Lebedev isn't elusive enough to outbox Jones for the whole fight I don't think, and I don't see the man mountain that is Jones having many problems withstanding Lebedev's shots. Also as folk mentioned in the betting thread, Lebedev's injuries last time could easily put miles on the clock. I wouldn't be surprised if Jones overwhelmed him by the mid rounds.
On the flipside, Jones is an old guy himself. 43 or something? He really is something else this guy. I'd like to see videos of his welterweight days but they seem difficult to come by. Anyone seen the Boudouani fights?

Can Jones even win a decision in Russia if it goes to the cards? Not sure... Jones stoppage is 7/2 though...
I think this comes down to how much the first fight took out of the Russian. If he comes in in the same shape as the first encounter before he got the swelling, he can see the fight out and the judges will take care of him. I'm banking on him not being the same guy.

Didnt Jones fail the piss test in the first fight?

Jones boxed a clever fight last time, some would say he boxed out of his skin
Not sure I can see him keeping it at that level again

Furosemide I believe, but the issues surrounding the drugs-test & post-fight fvcking-about & the heavy political machinations which have led to Jones being
reinstated as something called "Champion In Recess" (

) would take a couple of dodgy spy novels to fully explicate & the whole thing makes me feel sad & possibly dirty.
Both his "A" & "B" samples failed, but for lengthy bullshit reasons the WBA just chose to strip him rather than declaring the first fight a no-contest. Then they gave him his "title" back. Sort of.
He was busted for Furosemide (a racehorse diuretic, same thing Chavez has in his water bottles, I'm so sorry,
had once & there's no question he learned his lesson & would never ever touch again, which can also be used to expedite the removal of steroids & steroid masking agents from your system).
It's like Furosemide is his tipple of choice. It's what he was busted for after drawing with Johnny Nelson over here, aaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago.

He has done previously. He did after he drew with Johnny Nelson. Johnny Knew when he was in the ring with him he was on PEDs.
Mentioned in his book.

pudendum shouldnt be allowed to fight. Taking PED's and damaging a mans face like he did should be illegal

I think people are forgetting that Lebedev, even hampered by an injury was leading the fight (fairly) at the time of the stoppage.

But he was having to work very hard for it and do you not think that injury will have had a lasting effect?

Irrespective of points, Lebedev was being pummeled. Fighters seldom recover from such gruesome beatings, there must surely be some lingering mental and physical aftereffects. Jones no doubt feels he has Lebedev's number, but will his performance diminish without his special elixirs? And how many more times can he push his creaking bones through big fights like this? Fascinating fight, and almost guaranteed to be weird.
It wouldn't surprise me to see both men look off-colour, and perhaps thrash and stagger their way to a draw.

Jones beat Lebedev in every aspect last time. He was on his way to getting robbed on the cards. Lebedev couldn't hurt him and was forced to work very hard and ship lots of shots himself. This time I see him getting stopped again. Great odds on Jones.
That was the first time Lebedev was stopped and lets get it right - he quit. He went down and knew he was done. If he gets in trouble this time, what is going to be going through his head? And why is everyone so sure that the eye was a fluke? Enzos eye always swells up like that when he gets hit. Tyson was the same. It's what happens to some fighters when they take punishment.
Jones should win again.

Apparently the fights off, Jones failed pre-fight drugs test.

Doesnt surprise me though. Jones always looks abnormally big for the weight class when he's actually in the ring. He's got to be around 220 i'm guessing come fight night.

Holy crap Leb isn't gonna be too happy taking on Jones if he's tested positive again...bizzare, how many time can Jones test + and not be banned ?
Presumably there's doubt over last test ? Because you#d think he'd be on a GBH charge after that last gruesome beat down.
The Russian's are apparently trying to talk Leb into going ahead with fight ?
Another horror show out of Russia on the cards

According to Bunce the fight was never at risk, though he's shown his true colours by resorting to swearing at a guy who was translating posts from a Panamian journalist.

Oooh, do tell! Was the man's crime speaking passable Spanish?

One would think that he is either Don King's last champion or comes from the same place his governing body is based.
Also, well done to the Russian backers of Lebedev, their behaviour here has certainly short-circuited any cheap Western stereotypes about incipient gangsterism or, say, cold hard brutality by feeding their bloke to someone stuffed to the gills on fornicate-knows what.
Another great day for boxing.
