For someone who isnt widely recognised as the sharpest knife in the draw im pleased to see he's looked after his money and believes he has enough to retire and live a good life. Guy i know lives near him, says hes very unapproachable - may be a false perception to be fair.

He looks like he could be a bit of a grumpy little sod at times but then that could just be his face lol

A work colleagues daughter goes to the same primary school as Gavs little one. He said Gav isnt very approachable. He also said his daughter came home and said "whatever-her-name-is Rees said her Dad could beat you up, ive told her he couldn't and you would beat him up daddy" ....

Guy in work was proper flapping... "When you go to school tomorrow love you tell (Rees daughter name) that her daddy and your daddy are friends and wouldn't fight, ok?"

Think his wife did school run for next 6 weeks or so!

Sorry "The Rock", must say you come over as very approachable and honest on here. Reputation may be going before you down there.

he always struck me a bit of a loner, never seemed arsed about an entourage or anything. Maybe hes a bit of a socially awkward, aloof type. I remember watching the build up to broner thinking how he seemed perfectly content to be out there on his own.

What a little scrapper hes been tho

So a work colleague saw him drop his kid off at school and thought he didn't look approachable? Why on earth does he need to be approachable?
I've met him twice and he was a gent.
Quiet yes, but he was a canny guy. Even if he wasn't approachable it wouldn't have bothered me, he was a warrior in the ring and I for one will miss his fights.

Its all your fault Gav for not smiling once when you dropped your kid off at school! :shame:
I had a good laugh at the post fight comment to Eddie "Eddie delete my number from your phone!"

don't for a minute think I was knocking u gavin, just pointing out that you appear comfortable in your own company. No bad thing.

And as for the boxing, thanks for some truly great fights. Enjoy your retirement.

(Don't go chinning the other dad)

I was at the Crolla - Rees fight last year, Gav was wanderering around the ringside area pre-fight and had no problem stopping for a quick chat or a photo with anyone

I thought Rees was unlucky not to get the nod in the both the Crolla fight and the first Buckland one,i wonder if they defeats had an effect on his decision to hang up the gloves or it was something he would have went through with anyhow?

Either way its been a pleasure watching your career pan out,the M'Baye win was epic

On Broner "I cant wait to knock this prick out" :salut:

It was probably that he thought that in previous years it wouldn't have been close.

He has had a great career, nobody can take that away from him, and fair play for hanging them up whilst still competitive. He is the style of fighter who could get hurt if they carried on too long after their prime.

I probably wouldn't look very approachable after those fights with Mathews (2nd) and buckland (both). 3 thrilling fights.

must be a humble character, winning prize fighter after briefly holding a world title; then the rivalry with buckland, not even for a major domestic title, fights that delivered more action than most british, commonwealth and European title fights.
