I love watching Jack Sharkey. Such style. His chunk of Heller's '40 World Champs Tell Their Story' is a marvellous read.

Sharkey is also one of my favorites to watch . . there does seem to be more film of him than his other contemporaries at heavyweight (and light heavyweight). His film vs Maloney to be almost shows almost a perfect fighter . . .vicious counter-punching with great timing, consistent jab, and incredible head and upper body movement. Ironically I think the first Carnera fight was the twilight of his prime, and that by the time he won the title vs Schmeling (in a fight he should have lost, although it was closer than some make it out to be) he was past his best. You can see in the Schmeling and Carnera rematches Jack looks slower and flatter. By the time of the Louis fight he was a shell.

Sharkey was a solid 200lb'er at his best. He was really solid with skill. . . imagine he fough a solid 260lber in Carnera and even decked him. The second fight was a little dubious tho...

Just watching the sharkey vs maloney fight. What a lovely film for the day. Sharkey is great...his body movement, rapier like jab and confidence are supreme. What a really underrated fighter he is...great hand speed too...

Starkey landed a great combination on Dempsey.

Watched the Sharkey vs Phil Scott film yesterday...hilarious!!!! I think Scott got hit so hard on the chin it went to his leg!!!! lol A really sorry spectacle...but the reaction of Sharkey to Scott's quitting was great. He confronted him and was like 'how dare you quit!!' Thought he was gonna lump him one more....Fainting Phil Scott was a bit embarrasing in this one...the police had to lift him out of the ring!!!

Always impressed by jack Sharkey..a tough, no nonsense fighter from the days when they made 'em tough!!!

Sharkey's best performance was against Dempsey. Odd how many of his big fights seemed to involve fouling.
