I saw this whilst reading a guardian article.... Pretty bizarre

Nor inside the ring, as it happens. One of the many stipulations Groves laid down before the rematch (the most bizarre of which was an insistence that the promoters spend at least £50,000 on the ring entrances)

Got to laugh at George he looked totally pissed off last night. He also has a massive chip on his shoulders. I think he believes everyone is out to get him. Booth and Haye have gone its only Paddy stroking his ego. He must also be fuming at getting paid significantly less than Carl.

I used to like Groves up until he started thinking he’s a comedian hopefully Froch stops him early.

I imagine if the entire budget was broken down sufficiently, this sort of thing wouldn't stand out. I think George's contract may contain a number of weird things, on the basis that he doesn't have a lot of trust, nor an experienced manager/promoter behind him. He is very much a loner, on his own, and I can understand anything he wants gets sent in an email to Eddie with George saying "get that in the contract too", not cos he's a diva, but because he trusts nobody and he understands you've got more protection if it (whatever "it" happens to be) is down in black and white in the contract.

For all we know, maybe George heard that Carl's entrance was going to cost fifty grand so he thought "I'll have a bit of that ?"

I want to know what colour m&m s are in Georges dressing room.

I'd do the polar opposite and have it stipulated that the promoters spend no more than 50 quid on the ring entrances.

I doubt that would of been the case anyway but to be fair Froch is the champion and a matchroom fighter. Groves is the challenger.

Why they spend a fiver on it, let alone five grand is beyond me. When I fork out for the Pay-Per-View it's not because I want to see both fighters take 20 minutes to walk to the ring with their favourite song playing, or watch a firework display. It's not a concert.

I feel the same but it's an event, those ring walks are cringe worthy, hope no one goes for a flying carpet or motorbike entrance.

I think the razamatazz is for the non-hardcore fans, who will probably enjoy that sort of thing, most proper boxing fans won't give a monkies, Iron Mike Tyson made pretty good entrances that didn't cost fifty grand.

Eddie can probably still hear the boo's from Haye/Harrison, and may have butterflies about what it would feel like to have 80,000 fans around you really pxxxxd off. I don't mean either guy will do an Audley, but as we saw with Hall/Ward, it only takes a bump of heads to ruin things.

When I was a kid I thought they were ace, although I had until this moment blocked out Eubank astride that Harley.

ive got mixed feelings about Tyson but his ring walks - no music just a sense of foreboding - were the best since the whole boring nonsense began

I'v found out two of his other demands are to have the aroma of chicken soup pumped through the vents into his changing room and for rose petals to always be present floating in his toilet pan.

Nigel 'All-Business' Benn's intros probably cost a fiver. And that was for Mendy's shell suit.

Eubank should've put his belt on a roadsweeper and pushed that down the aisle.

In fairness though I think we're all a bit guilty of the rose petal thing. Or is that just me and George ?!
