Just was watching some classic boxing action while nursing some man flu and just wondering what are some of your personal boxing regrets.... you know fights or a series of fights that should have happened but for some reason didn't. Both domestically and world wide.

Try and not just note the obvious ones (e.g. The early naughties Light Middles not fighting each other, no Hatton vs Witter, no Pacquiao vs Mayweather etc)

My domestic one would be - no Steve Robinson vs Barry Jones when Barry was WBO Super Feather champion. Could have been a really intriguing fight and a real cash earner - to Cardiff lads, former gym mates (with the criminally overlooked Ronnie Rush) and an intriguing clash of styles. Robinson was going through a decent run as Commonwealth feather champion around the time also.

Globally (and entirely related to my boxing action I have been watching).... More fights involving the Super Feather / Lightweights of the mid 2000's.

the likes of Freitas, Casamayor, Castillo and Corrales all fought each other, but were generally considered a step behind Mayweather so possibly didn't get the limelight their skills deserved. I would have loved to have seen more of them against each other (Freitas vs Casamayor 2 etc), but at the time also there was the likes of Morales, Barrera, Maquez and Pacquiao all seemingly fighting for the #1 spot without them fighting these 4 fantastic fighters.... Yes, Maquez fought Casamayor eventually at Maquez's peak (and Casa somewhat on the slide) but I would have loved to have seen a series of fights involving these 8 fighters around the 2004/2005 mark.

I would have liked to see a rematch between Buster Keeton and Terry Dunstan - Keeton just got caught cold, it was such a shame.

A rematch between Colin McMillan and JonJo Irwin - that was a controversial and close win for Colin and also a rematch with JonJo and Paul Ingle - Ingle tested positive for some diuretic or stimulant after the bout and the result stood.

Marquez v Morales was a big lost opportunity.

Domestically, not matching up Barker, Macklin and Murray was wasteful.

When South Korea ruled the light flyweights and had the three belts in the late 1980's - none of them unified.

I think your first one is particularly a good call. Infact, related to some of my man flu viewing I saw Holy vs Toney and if people remember that was kind of a match made in a bit of haste as both original opponents fell though (RJJ for Holyfield and Hopkins for Toney). I'm sure at the time Toney at Cruiserweight would have started as a warm favourite -(especially as Hopkins was practically fighting at Light Middle at the time) - however, given Hopkins' run at Light Heavy at pushing 50..... I think Hopkins would have won.

I used to have a regular email/msn chats with Cory Spinks' manager at the time. He was tipping Hopkins comfortably to find a way and he had dealings with the two of them.

Decent call - although think he would have been the underdog against 3 of them. I would have had him favourite against Duran at Light Middle in mid/late 80's.

On a similar note - Halger vs Benitez mainly because the big 4 would have become the big 5.

I wanted to see Khan fight Yuri Romanov back when Khan was commonwealth and Romanov EBU champ.
