Were you at the big show last night??

I know some people on here went. What was it like? Any stories? Did it kick off near you at all? What was the best bit/ worst bit? What was the best fight on the show? Who was the best boxer or winner/ loser on the night? Did anyone get a burger and chips for £9.50 and was it manky? Anyone see Eubank sneaking his sandwiches out of his Armani briefcase - or any other boxers or "noteworthy" types. Also what was the atmosphere like?? Biggest British show since the 30's I believe(attendance-wise). Was it a good choice of venue in the end? Any observations here...

would they ever use Wembley for a fight again - and if so, who for?? I think Floyd should come here and fight Khan instead of running around avoiding him, the chicken

There was a lot of empty seats. Definietly not 80k in there. The atmosphere for the main event was brilliant. The entrances were really good I thought. The atmosphere for the other fights was a bit subdued at times. Saw one fight but that was comical than anything and the steward soon got rid of the main instigator.

Great venue and great facilities. Given the vast size of the stadium most fans in the tiers (including bottom tiers) watched the screens rather than the actual ring. Great atmosphere nevertheless. The ringwalks were well organised and were almost on par with the amazing German ringwalks. I've previously been to a couple of fights with 60k+ fans but this crowd was the loudest by far.

sounds fairly secure. It must be hard to police a big joint like that although I guess you just use more staff. Were there a lot of coppers and also did you have to go through any special security measures??? A massive event like that or an airport you would expect some security - but with Boxing I imagine it would be pretty relaxed being as how they generally allow p*ssed up folk to get drunk until they can hardly stand up. I wouldn't be surprised if people smuggled bloody allsorts into there!
Where the hell did this 80k tickets figure come from then - where did they go?

No security or bag searches. Laugable.
Obviously a lot of security at the event and loads of police.
I was stuck between some comically pissed up west brom fans and some chippy Chelsea fans.
Was ok, been to better big fights but the main event was decent.
There were tons of empty seats and loads covered up. No way was that anything like a sold out arena.

Yeah you had to empty your pockets and stuff but it was fairly straight forward and quick. There was ton of stairs to get to where I was in the stadium. I was knackered by the time I got to my seat lol. Had some Groves fans behind me which was pretty funny but even with people supporting both fighters there was no trouble or uneasy atmosphere. There was police about but I didnt see tons myself.

wow! really?

...it sounds it! So on balance you would say a success then - better than say, a more normal sized stadium - say for example Kevin Mitchell's - or David Haye/ Chisora's recent fights at West Ham....
I've heard Wembley can be a bit flat - Old Wembley that is, but it sounds like there was good noise/ atmosphere, which is good for you folks that went!
Was it an expensive night? Did you have to stop over Colombo or were there still trains on? or were you on a bus or summat?
I thought Groves's entry on the bus was pretty cool.

The coach journey home was hell though....... Also the coach failed to turn up for the journey up there and ended up having to get the train up. That was a joke.

Was supposed to get the coach up there but it didnt turn up where it was supposed to so me and a bunch of other guys got left behind. So we then had to get the train up. That part of the experience was a joke I have to say.

it was in London to be fair tho

.........who was the crowd with?? I imagined the Londoners pulled for Groves. Nobody up my way was particulalry jumping for joy at the stoppage. I think many people wanted Groves to win!

You say that but I had 3 metrosexual yorkshiremen in front of me that seemed to spend the majority of the night taking selfies and sporadically going into a chorus of "yorkshire, yorkshire, yorkshire"

No. As I said no security or bag search. The girl I was with had a huge bag.
Waltzed straight in as the Mitchell fight was ending and not one person said anything. Didn't see anyone else get searched either.

Ah ok. The section I went in there was a bunch of stewards searching people. I was asked to empty my pockets. Another guy got a full pat down and so on. It wasnt very intensive though.

I noticed they had a roof over the ring. If it started to rain would the people sitting on the pitch have all just got soaked then?? Didn't it start raining when Lewis and Bruno fought in Cardiff??
on the point of the big screens - that is interesting as it it very had to keep staring at a smallish object, such as a ring, when you are quite far away. I was in the Gods last year at Khan verus Julio Diaz and it was giving my eyes gyp! I like to watch the whole bill and over a couple of hours it is a right strain on the eyes!

I would of needed binoculars or superhuman vision to see the ring clearly from where I was lol
