Groves will be back, haha pull the other one.

George says back to the drawing board, we I think he needs one of those big boards with plenty of writing paper. Groves is finished, he got luck in the first fight against Froch and did not have a plan B in the second fight. Froch had that plan B. Coming back from a fight like that will certainly not be easy so I see several domestic clashes for George even if he can come back from that shot. Some punches end a career and I feel that shot has ended George Groves. Yes he has time on his side to maybe pick up a vacant world title but I'm now more interested to see how he comes back from that fight.

To be honest I blame George Groves for that defeat.

Don't be stupid, he's a talented kid, fast, hard counter puncher. For about 16 rounds he gave Froch hell, i'd go as far as to say he gave him a lesson in spots.

Groves problem for me is the lack of conviction in a particular style. He should be far more defensive, and focus on his defence. His counters and overhand rights come naturally, he shouldn't even think about them, he needs to rebuild his entire game around his defence like Klitchko did after Brewster, and he'll develop a style where he's hell to break down and where KO's come naturally.

What was Froch's plan B? He seemed to fight his usual fight to me.

Much more disciplined, more use of the jab, actually standing and having a tactical boxing match with Groves. Pretty much the exact opposite gameplan of the first fight. You want any more?

He didn't fight a different fight, he was just more patient. It was the same Carl Froch we see regularly. His jab was better too, but is that a plan b? Really?

Most Froch opponents do well after fighting him.

Groves will be fine. I think he could maybe look at improving his backroom staff. He does seem to be a one man band who doesn't trust others to do things right. He seems to take alot on himself. Hopefully sauerland can help with this.

Do you think he can't? Abraham hardly fights at a pace to trouble Groves, and Groves is far more elusive than Froch who outboxed Abraham with ease. It's a very winnable fight for Groves.

Dirrell beat Abraham in his next fight.

I said most not all anyway.

Well he beat him but his career has been screwed since. Obviously that's not the result of carl but just following the theme.

Yeah I agree. I saw no way in hell he could not get clattered by Groves at least a few times. That fight must have been the lowest number of shots Carl froch has ever had to take in a bout. He was due one like it!

Of course Groves will be back. Seen any number of fighters dropped heavily and still go on to produce brilliant performances.

What amazed me is that a fighter of Groves' obvious ability and considerable years boxing is doing getting caught off guard like that and with his left hand nowhere remotely close to his chin. He'll come again tho. I've just read a line in yesterday's paper where Barry Mcguigan said Groves' problem was lack of experience in very big fights. Exactly what I said last night - only difference is McGuigan called it beforehand (he said Froch in 10, 11 or 12 btw).

Groves has been stopped twice now, once he denies, the other extremely badly - the trend is there that Froch takes something out of everyone he fights. George has had a torrid 9 months with Froch both mentally and physically. It will have taken it's toil without a doubt. He was completely wiped out by the right hand on Saturday.

Kessler had to retire from the Super Six after having his face opened up like a tin of beans against Froch in Herning. After Froch rematch he retired yet again for a year.

He smacked Pascal out of the division. Taylor was never the same after the gruelling fight with Froch and ended up in hospital in his next fight.

Bute was ruined and gone from superstar to a vulnerable shell. Magee left on oxygen, moved out of division too.

15-0 Rybacki never fought ever again. GB squad member 11-0 Alan Page never fought again. Damon Hague destroyed in a round and never fought again.

Arthur Abraham was devastating against Dirrell, he was screwed by that prick ref after Dirrell pretended to be unconcious then left the Super Six afterwards claiming headaches from a glancing punch when he had dived onto the canvas.

His first proper defeat, was the when he was routed by Froch in Herning. Nobody had done that to Arthur, and he lost his mojo after that fight in a massive way. He went from Super Six favourite ahead of Ward to nowhere. Ward didn't beat Arthur like Carl did, not even close. He was never the same afterwards.

Groves is young but look at Jorge Linares or Francisco Bojado, both red hot prospects who have waned since a heavy defeat.

Michael Nunn after losing to James Toney, Pavlik after Hopkins.

The best example would be John Mugabi, the fighter whom ironically founded Sauerland promotions. He blazed through 25 opponents by KO until he was mandatory for Marvin Hagler - and he was knocked out. Then he was knocked out again straight after in half the time by half the fighter.

Pretending all is well and that there will be 0% difference in Groves is wishful thinking and a rarity not the norm.

He needs a long holiday, complete break from boxing and some soft fights at the end of the year and assess it from there in my opinion.

very interesting post Gomez. I saw the Damon Hague fight on the BBC, it looked like a nothing sort of a blow but it was the first round and Hague was clearly puddled. However, I believe he was at the end of the road more or less already. As for Pascal I hardly think he was so scared as to change weights, perhaps it just suited him more. Pavlik it seems has drink related issues and was going to implode at some point or other.
Nevertheless I wouldn't disagree with most of the above. Magee being in an exhausted state already won't have help him with that uppercut, which seemed to come straight from Hell also. And Abraham looked plain tiny compared to Froch and got scared into his shell, barely threw a punch in the fight - and a real banger as well!
Froch is just a very tough, strong man. If anything, these wars have made him tougher. This is the reason he beat Groves, it's the reason he'd probably do something similar to Degale.

George was more than holding his own and he got caught with a good shot, its boxing, happens to the best of them, no shame in it, Fair play to Froch he landed it. Groves should try get into a position to fight Bika,

I thought Froch was the more likely to win.
Have you seen Abraham recently, very plodding slow stuff

Groves is finished is one of the dumbest lines I've heard for a while. He is young, fast and powerful talented kid that played his part in one of the biggest fights in the UK ever. He has a great promoter behind him and if he can certainly beat abraham and if degail wins the vacant ibf, that sets up an all british unification fight. Talk about not thinking outside the box. Such an unintelligent post

Abraham fights the same as he always has done! Although it's true his explosive attacks aren't quite so potent these days (SMW). Still wish Pavlik/AA back at MW pre-Hopkins psychological damage. He forced Dirrell to press the eject button.

Regarding George. not sure Paddy is the man for him. He didn't look as sharp, fluid.. he has been steadily rising each fight but he regressed to me last night..
Maybe the humungous occasion forced him into a shell?
