Yet another WBA thread

First of all im sorry these ABC bashing threads pop up every couple of months but what is starting to irk me is the growing "prestige" this WBA "regular" title seems to be getting

For one it isnt even being referred to as the Regular title now,its just the "WBA" the other title is of course the "super" title which is confusing itself when for instance your effectively calling a FW champ(Donaire) a super FW champ, not to be confused with the SFW champ(Uchiyama),do you follow?

Another thing is Boxing Monthly whose rankings i respect have started to include regular champs as titlists,4 ABC's is enough dont confuse the situation by adding another,we all know the Super champ is the real champion

But most worryingly is the reluctance of Regular champs to face the Super champ,Ive heard Quigg mention every top SBW in the world bar Rigondeaux,McDonnell no doubt will be chasing back the IBF strap and probably will plan on facing his "Regular" mandates inbetween before moving up rather than face Moreno but its still early days in his reign so i might be a tad harsh,Braehmer i know for a fact wont even attempt to get Hopkins in the ring,Froch holds one as well but if the Ward rematch doesnt happen then that can slide coz no doubt he'll fight another top 5 opponent

Does owning the regular title put you in the frame for a shot at the super, like what the Interim's purpose was originally before becoming a farce where you have WBA and WBA Interim on the same bill in the same division despite the fact that the Interim was only meant to be active when the real champ was inactive?

I read that Donaire(Super) might fight Walters(Reg)?,i dont know has a WBA fight took place between both "Champions" a unification fight within the same organisation :o

Wlad/Povetkin maybe?

Not much else to say, it's a joke

Nail and head.

Of all the intercontinental and interim bullshit titles the WBA regular one seems to be gathering pace. Am I right in thinking that Golovkin has the regular title; and therefore doesn't hold a 'proper' world title?

I don't see Scott Quigg as a wold champion. As for Mcdonell, I can't help but feel the celebrations last night tended to suggest they don't see it as a proper world title too; that said they seem happy to plug the 'two time world champion'.

Same as Povetkin not being a world champion.

Boxing Monthly should be ashamed, I hadn't noticed that change in this months rankings.
I saw Quigg was called WBA champ in 19/4 write up.
If they don't change back to using WBA regular/super I won't renew my subscription this year.

From that viewpoint, the argument could actually be made that, out of all the governing bodies, the WBA has done the best job of selling their extra titles.

no one takes a silver or international world title seriously. but by adding a title above the standard world title, they have more effectively duped the boxing fans around the world

which does of course make them the biggest shower of devious bastards out of the lot of them

This! fornicating joke!

I tell my mates Quigg isn't a world champion (and will do for McDonnell now) but they don't understand cuz Sky tells them he is!

I've got quite a few mates who will watch big fights with me and when I moan at them for not being more into it the reason that often comes up is 'too many belts thesedays'

You need to tell them that (just email)

I know you might think its only one person but we all need to do things like that make our voices heard.

I don't attach any relevance to any ABC titles any more. World champion to me means proven best guy in the division, end of.

:TU:

Shower of pudenda, the lot of them. The best sport there is, the ultimate in human endeavour & physical competition saddled with the worst officiating, the worst power structure & the worst governance you could possibly wish for.

Sigh.

When the Seannie Monaghan/Elvir Muriqui fight was on last night Nick Halling mentioned Monaghan being ranked 6 by the WBA and maybe in the frame to fight Braehmer

Whats the crack with being Mandatory with WBA?

Is the Super champ exempt from mandates and is it only the Regular champ who fulfills them?

The regular champion is the super champion's mandatory, but they then have their own mandatory defences as well. It's a stupid situation designed to bring the WBA more money in sanctioning fees.

:TU: Yeah i knew the jist with the sanctioning fees etc,i dont know why i even bother asking about the WBA,nothing surprises me with them at all, apart from Wlad/Povetkin i cant think of another example of the super champ fulfilling his mandate against the regular titlist

Am I right in saying that Ruslan chageav is going to fight Luis Ortiz for a 'regular' title? Can't remember if I seen it on boxing scene or something like that but if that is true it really does make a mockery of world titles and the fans

I'd have massive respect for if say Quigg or McDonnell or any of these other paper champscame out and admitted they werent a proper world champion until they faced the man

But TBH the WBA have lost all credibility and even their Super champs are somewhat tainted

I think it's actually worse than that.

Povetkin is likely to fight Fres Ocquendo for the "regular" title, and Ortiz is apparently going to get a shot at the "interim" title.

soon more fighters will finish their pro boxing career with ABC world titles than one's that finished school with GCSE's.

The worse part as another poster has mentioned is that the WBA now has 'interim' 'regular' and 'super' champions. It's a joke.

This is why Canelo refused to pay the sanction fee to face Lara for his 'Regular Title' as. Floyd will be considered the WBAs champ at 154

A huge part of my love for boxing died in 2001, when I first read of the WBA's astounding 'super-champ' and 'regular champ' scheme. I remember gasping. I thought, 'they've gone too far this time, they'll never get away with it.'

But they did. All promoters, all fighters, all channels have wilfully cooperated with them. Duplicate champions? Why not? What are the fans really going to do about it anyway?

When real fans are confused as to who the divisions champion is, then you know there is a problem.

So ward is the super champ at super middle, carl froch is the unified champ(according to there site) and Kashtanov(?) is the interim whilst being ranked 43rd.

So given that interims normally fight the regular champ, will we see carl brush this guy aside or will they just keep him as interim?
