JCC Jnr - The next Groves

I think it's likely it will be Chavez Jnr next...big money, but is this a massive banana skin for Carls legacy. I ain't seen a single post (ever since this fight has been mooted) give Chavez a chance. For me, if Chavez will ever win a world title then his best chance stylistically is against Froch. If Froch does lose...what does this mean for his legacy.

Why I'm saying is Chavez the next groves is because next to no one gave Groves a chance ahead of the first fight.

It's actually quite an interesting one. But Froch makes it through, wins a bruising decision.

Actually, looking at Chavez's record - is it a guarantee he is enough of a draw to get Vegas interested? His only Vegas outing in recent years was against Martinez (a well known fighter stateside... whose fought most of his career in the states).

It might be a bit of a gamble for Vegas to use these two as headliners as both are relatively unknown quantities in terms of traveling support. Will it tick Froch's box that it might be a co-feature with another world title fight?

Chavez Jr is a very tough opponent and no way would I see froch as a given in that fight. Chin wise I would rate them equal and also engine wise.

It would be a bruising encounter. I hope they make it happen.

I haven't seen his last fight but come on the oppostion Chavez Jr has fought is nowhere near Carl Froch !!!

His best win was Andy Lee at Middleweight, got school by Martinez for 11 rounds and struggled against Vera the first time Vera who was not even a top 15 middleweight and stopped by Andy Lee.

He is tough and a good body puncher but I think Froch beats him easy if he doesn't do anythign stupid.

Froch landslide point win or late stoppage.

Also I think JCC Jr will demand big money and harder to negotiate with. Bika would be a decent choice plus he has a World Title.

Froch as crossed over now. The last fight made him, he'll take a good few over.

Forget Chavez JR be easy fight for Froch
Carl Froch v Golovkin would be a great fight, would also be huge over here and in States.

I would rather watch Froch v Ward Degale or even Peter Quillin.

Lots of people here were predicting that Groves would not only win but blow Froch out. I agree nobody is picking Chavez, and that's because he'll be out of his class, as well as weight division. It won't be a blowout, because Chavez has heart and Froch doesn't blow people out, but the result won't be in doubt for me.

Out of his division? JCC is massive, what did he weigh in the ring with Vera, like 190lb?

He's a weight too low, how he made middleweight I'll never know, it certainly wasn't safely and quite possible wasn't legal either. He'd come into the ring weighing at least 13 1/2 stone, quite possibly more than that considering he made it up to there while fighting at middleweight, add the extra 8lbs and he could be over 14 stone by the time he gets into the ring. He wouldn't be out of his class either, Froch isn't anything special boxing wise, technically he's average and coming up against someone he can't match physically would be a difficult fight for him, one he should win, but if it turned into a tear up, Chavez would be in with a real chance of winning the fight, especially with the judges on his side.

Froch is a much better boxer than Chavez, he could box him behind the jab and win an easy decision, what makes the fight fun is that Froch almost certainly wont fight that way and will likely be more than happy to mix it up with Chavez. I think Froch gets criticism for his boxing 'skills' but the type of fighters that show up some of his fundamental flaws are a huge step above Chavez.

As for the idea that a loss could hurt his legacy, I don't really agree. Obviously a loss to Chavez would be a shock and disappointment for Froch fans, but at this point a loss is more likely to signify the end of an era than a huge dent to his legacy. The guy has been fighting and winning at world level for years now, his legacy as one of Britain's finest is already secured.

I think it's a close fight, far from a gimme for carl. Away from home and with Carl potentially a little softer thanks to his new found sense of wealth and contentment I possibly favour Chavez ever so slightly. People are sleeping on Chavez a little I feel, he's got a solid chin and wont be easy to deter, Carl aint great inside so he'll need to move a lot and still win rounds clearly...that wont be easy against a HBO cash cow.

Great fight though I'd love to be there.

Chavez is fairly big even for a super middleweight. He is about 6'1" and was cutting a huge amount of weight to make 160.

I think froch wins, but only if he prepares for the fight in the same way he did for the groves rematch. If he goes into it the way he did for the first groves fight then he might be in for a hard night.

Well, that's here. If you check out the comments on the Ring website and other places you'll see there's a lot of people who think Froch has no chance with Jnr! It's pretty amazing.

I think this has a huge amount to do with pretty casual Mayweather/Pacman fans who have never really seen Froch fight before and have never really heard of Groves, saw the fight on Saturday and saw Froch looking weird and gangly and a million miles away from what they expect from a good boxer and aren't impressed. This is kinda understandable: those of us who've followed him right back from before he fought Pascal have all thought it. It took me a good while to really appreciate what we had with him. But we've seen him fight enough to know the dude's a fornicating beast. They haven't seen that so they think he sucks and Groves is a nobody.

Chavez on the other hand has really been exposed already. He's gotten by on coming in absolutely massive against much smaller guys and not even the top guys at his weight either. The one time he stepped it up was against Martinez and apart from the last round he got bashed to fornicate. It wasn't even close. A lot got made of the KD and Martinez was hurt but Sergio goes down in every fight now anyway. Chavez is a big lad but I think Froch is leaner and probably has more genuine size and seems massive in the ring (I think both of their heights are exaggerated: unless Eddie Hearn and Andy Lee are both about 6'5" Froch and Chavez aren't 6'1" as listed by boxrec). Vera's a middleweight and I don't see him beating any of the top ten SMW so I can't see how the fact he beat him there means anything.

Also, a lot of these guys are saying things like Chavez only lost to Sergio because he "only trained for five days and was stoned the rest of the time." This is stupid. Chavez might not have trained enough, but Martinez was easily the best fighter he's ever fought so I bet he trained the hardest he ever trained. Weed stays in your system for months and so he could've had a bong at a party before he'd even started camp and tested positive. fornicate it he could have had half a reefer. A tug on a joint. Calling him a pothead all the time and blaming his shortcomings on that is stupid.

But... The boxing public IS kinda stupid, that's why this'll sell well. You've got a load of guys out there who think Carl's a joke. You've got the Mexicans and Americans who think Chavez is some kind of force of nature. Those who really follow world boxing will see that Froch will be a big favorite with good reason, but I bet plenty of betting money comes in on Chavez. I'm sure it will sell very well and it will be all action, but I'll be surprised if JCC does a 'Groves' on him. I think it'll go the 12, with both guys getting marked up. But JCC is going to look like the elephant man.

Check this post out from ESB

"because an in shape jr is way too much for froch. too strong, chin way too great and enough power to hurt and stop froch after pummeling him.

he is actually a better fighter than froch, he could beat everyone froch has beat and annihilate froch.

jr is truly the biggest under achiever due to being a star and babied from day 1. he gets it now, he wants to be a top fighter and I know he can take all of 168 out. only ward could beat him but ward could lose too.

in shape jr is so much better than he is given credit for. phucking dude might be the toughest, badest mofo in boxing.

I will pick him against everyone at 168 minus ward. i'll wait to see when that fight happens. only jr fighting ggg would mess the rest of his career up. his chin is too good and ggg would pummel him so bad his chin will be forever cracked or at the very least weakened.
