Have I missed his obituary? The guy is European middleweight champion and ranked number one by the WBC, but could be dead for all we know.
You know, Eastman is 34 later this year. He shouldn't be sitting around at this stage in his career.

It's interesting how his planned 'WBC final eliminator' with Christian Sanavia mysteriously vanished, and now Sanavia is fighting Beyer for the super middle title...

ah well, howard wasn't that good anyway. even if he had fought Hopkins, he would've been totally outclassed.

I don't think Eastman will ever fight for the WBC title, if your No1 ranked or not does'nt make alot of difference, if your face fits and all that bo**ocks, Eastman has vacated his british title, has he still got the European, the guy is a class act but will never fill his potential IMO, How does Oscar DLH get to fight Hopkins and Hopkins fights Allen again, then Winky gets stripped by everybody, there is something badly wrong with our sport.

The winner of Tito vs Mayorga should get a Number 1 WBC ranking? they should be high when they come back.

Lets be honest if you kiss enough arse or your promoter does you get a high ranking, Hennessey must have sore knees.

I honestly don't know what is worse, Hatton's endless stream of road-sweepers or Eastman's cunning tactic of going AWOL.

I guess at least Warren gets you a regular diet of stiffs to fight, let's face from a financial point of view Eastman would be massively better off had he been with SN over the last 24 months.

I've probably earned more than Eastman post-Joppy and I'm no big earner.

Eastman could'nt sell out his front room, or Calzaghe for that matter, cud Hatton be the new Golden balls , Eastman is finished IMO, good fighter but wrong promoter, i bet he's earning f**k all, Maloney let him walk and said he'd bee better off managing himself

Eastman has missed his chance, he slept in with Joppy and that was for a 2nd level WBA title. Hopkins would hurt Eastman, differant level, look what happened to Joppy when he squared off with Hopkins. I feel we have seen the best of Eastman, hes a decent fighter, but not "true" World Champion material. Thats no bad thing, he's just not the world's best.

He's been WBC 1 for a long time now. I cannot see him getting in the ring with Hopkins. There's bigger money fights for Hopkins out there. De La Hoya later in the year and a possible rematch with Trinidad.

Maybe the best Eastman can hope for is if the WBC, create a second title by making Hopkin's some type of "Super" Champion. Like the way they did with Tszyu when Gatti fought for a 2nd WBC title at the weight. Then Eastman could fight another contender. Again, its not what we want to see, more titles. But it could be what happens in todays boxing world.

What ever he does, he has too do it quick or he's in danger of returning to a low level fight and getting beat. Its happened to many a fighter in the past.

unless eastman wants to wait around he should move up in weight

thknk the fact that he is so "eccentric" leads to an degree of unreliability, I was chatting to chap from the Beeb not so long ago and his general jist re Eastman were, good fighter but his style is not crowd pleasing, did you see his last fight, it was awful. Which it was.

And it was so with the more recent Froch hyping, it seems the beeb are championing Carl as their boxing saviour, wheras not so long ago Eastman was the main name.

So all in all I dont think Howard will ever fight for a world title again.
Shame I quite liked him.

It's a shame Eastman's career looks to have all but ended, not in a glorious or brave challenge for a world title but shrouded in anonymity, fizzling out against European 'B' or even 'C' level opposition.

With good promoting Howard could have made some decent money, the eccentricity alone generated interest.

Several US fight fans I spoke with thought quite highly of him after the Joppy fight (which I found remarkable) but far from capatilising on that he has gone to fighting at Goresbrook leisure centre. No offence intended to residents of Goresbrook but it ain't Vegas.

As an aside, Eastman is from Guyana isn't he? Just thought that as Holdsworth was talking about fighters from Guyana tonight during the Harris-Urkal fight.

I heard Arthur Skagill is Eastman's personal career development manager.
