Im assuming this fight is being lined up since Sky had Paulie Malignaggi over for insight into the Froch V Groves fight, seemed like profile building to me. Does anyone else think its likely the Porter fight is getting blown off in favour of this match up instead?

What about these world titles ?

I thought the Porter fight was near enough signed now for August, unless the Schaffer thing has thrown a spanner in the works.... Paulie is always a potential opponent for anyone though, bit of a name and no punch makes him an appealing fight, but I don't think he'll be fighting until the end of the year, if at all. I think there's more chance of it happening to rebuild Brook if he gets beat by Porter.

I sure hope not as Paulie is coming off a bad loss where he didn't even make a good account of himself, unfortunately. I don't see why this fight gets made- Paulie is at the lowest point in his career coming off 2 losses in 3 fights, with the last one being uncompetitive. He should have a comeback fight, not get in with another elite opponent after suffering a career worst defeat. Of course, he could just retire now with his senses intact and continue with his commentating which he seems to be really succeeding at.
Brook wouldn't stand to advance his career a lot by beating Paulie at this point- it would have meant a lot more a year ago.

I think Dan Ion is who Brook would have to fight for the vacant title.

Maybe have Malignaggi vs Purdy on the undercard in an unofficial world title eliminator.

People read too much into things sometimes, he's been over before and he's developing a great reputation as a analyst, bringing him in gave a different viewpoint that we don't usually hear.

If Paulie does fight anyone over here, the most likely candidate right now is Frankie Gavin if he beats Bundu, I believe that Malignaggi's Italian roots qualify him for the European title and it would be a good fight to introduce Frankie to an American audience, as well as hopefully bringing the best out of him and selling well too.

It's off topic but I think Paulie is a really good addition, he has good insights - I've sen him comment a few times - I thought he'd be really annoying but he's really good. I'd not like to see him get mauled by big hitting welters; he's done really well for himself - it must be terribly difficult operating near top level without a decent punch to deter someone from just attacking full on. He must have nerves of steel.

I think that was before the Porter fight though, at that point if he won he would have been fighting Brook next, after the defeat, I don't think there would be much interest in fighting him anymore.

Yeah Paulie has definitely said recently that he'd like to fight for the European belt.

I think Malignaggi is an extremely underrated fighter and I wouldn't see it as a given that Brook beats him easily. Brook got a lot of credit for the Senchenko win but Paulie also completely decimated him. He's really only ever been beaten by elite operators.

Honestly the unwarranted BS directed at Brook by certain posters drags this board down.
By all means have your knives sharpened in case it all falls through I wouldn't blame you but wait till the fights announced or ruled out before carving him up again.
The guy has been through the mill enough it really is time to step back and wait and see.

Agreed he is funny knowledgeable and has over achieved with the tools he has.
