You see alot of complaints about cornering with the fighter being told to "just have a go", "get stuck in" etc. But are there any examples of a cornerman giving the fighter a piece of advice that completely turns a fight on its head? Like telling him that his opponent is wide open for the left hook and the fighter going out and executing it.

It happens a lot, but most people don't notice, most trainers give out good advice, because you can see more from outside the ring, then in the ring, the problem is that the fighters don't always carry out the instructions or even listen.

Correct. It takes a very educated and calm fighter to be able to take on board good advice when the adrenaline is pumping and fatigue setting in.

I like Robert McCrakens advice between rounds.

I think 'The Shinfields' give terrible advice between rounds. Always felt bad for Rendall Monroe.

Adam booths advice between rounds is always clinical.

Same with joe Gallagher when he is cornering Crolla. Always sticks to the game plan.

I like Lockett in the corner too.

But it'd only good cornering if the fighter follows it.

I always love the old Calzaghe cornering at the end of round one with Hopkins after being dropped.

I remember when Calzaghe fought Hopkins, his dad Enzo in the corner, shouted to Joe " Either you stop him or I will stop you ! " found it funny at the time, Enzo used to go crazy in the corner and swore constantly.

Loved Dean Powell's work when he was handing up to inexperienced trainers. He'd throw them out of the way and tell the fighter straight(in a Wolverhampton accent in the Midlands and a cockney accent in London!).

Enzo would panic....nothing clear.

Dean Powell's comments during the Hopkins fight were amazing.

slightly off topic the worst must be pepe correa who was in lennox's corner in a fight i forget who against and lewis comes back to the corner and pepe says forget what we worked on and just knock him out ...stunning tactics there

I used to like to watch the late Wally Swift doing the corner work. He always seemed very calm and unruffled, organised - even when it was Wally or Tony boxing and things weren't going well.

That cuts man, Williamson is very good as well and I think Gary Lockett is very good now and will improve until he is very highly sought after.

I'm not keen on the grandstanders who enjoy the limelight too much - they seem jealous of the boxer.

Nacho Beristain tells Rafael Marquez in between rounds 7 and 8 in the Tim Austin fight, something along the lines of : "I don't know what you're doing, we didn't train to fight him like this. This is for the Championship, you have to be more aggressive. I don't know what's going on with you"

...Rafael Marquez knocked out Tim Austin in the 8th round, and Round 8 was exciting as f*ck while the first 7 rounds were very slow, tedious and tactical. The fight turned as dramatically in 1 round as I've ever seen a fight turn.

How about Chris Eubank sr tonight in his son's corner, or not, stood posing in his posh attire, near the centre of the ring and not saying anything to his son, just posing like someone. from Madonna's vogue video.

specifically checked out this thread as I thought I might find this! Ain't seen it myself yet. Hadn't realised Eubank was a Second, he's previously been at ringside.

I was amazed at how calm McCracken was in the first Groves fight. Funnily enough, he seemed more wound up in the rematch. Joe Calzaghe always seemed very good at adapting in the ring - maybe he'd have been better doing his own corner! The Mancini comment is a jaffa!

i was told in between the 1st and 2nd rounds stop fornicating trying to pace yourself and just hit the pudendum ,i'd lost the first be all accounts .
