It seems that allegedly is messing around as well. He announced that he's sent a written offer through to McDonnell's licenced manager, Hobson, yet knows full well that they no longer work together.

It's embarrassing.

Everyone is at the bollocks. Allegedly started it with his childish press release and Hearn's counter offer of 200k is equally pathetic

Hobson is still McDonnell's manager, you can't just terminate the contract unless it's been breached or there's a clause in it that allows you to and since it's registered with the board, it won't have one, so to get out of the contract early both parties would have to agree. Otherwise there's no point in signing a contract if the fighter can walk at any stage he likes. And lets not pretend Hearn isn't playing the same game, he's been making stupid offers of his own that he knows won't be accepted.

From what I've read from the outside looking in, I side with Hobson over the McDonnell issue.

It's okay when Matchroom do it, but when Warren does it he's making silly offers and wasting everyone's time, complete double standards there. You're buying into fast cars used car dealer salesman spiel, it's not the first time he's said stuff like this and it won't be the last, all promoters do it, should simply be taken with a pinch of salt regardless of who it's from. By his own admission Eddie will only put a fight on if the numbers add up, how does £400k in purses for Paul Butler vs Jamie McDonnell add up? Chuck in a full undercard and all the other costs associated with putting a show on, venue hire etc, and you're looking at a huge number to put the show on. McDonnell isn't a ticket seller and neither are big names, it would have to more or less sell out the Echo Arena for it to come close to making financial sense.

He may as well have offered 200 million. Its an empty offer.

Stop acting like Hearn and Warren are on a level footing. One has given a LOT of reasons why he shouldn't be trusted, the other hasn't. I know you hate the Essex wanker and all.

To be fair though you cant really compare the marketability of Froch and Mcdonnell. Mcdonell wouldnt be able to sell out Wembley stadium in a million years! Lol. He probably couldnt sell a quarter of that.

Froch never used to be able to sell anything. He was barely even known over here. You have got to build an interest in a fighter, a Matchroom v FW world title fight would go a long way to doing it.

Yeah but even if it did happen can you really see McDonell going on to being a massive ticket seller? He's at a weight class that isnt particularily appealing anyway to the masses and his he's a textbook boxer which isnt very exciting to watch and he's not a big puncher.

Do I think he could be a ticket seller, quite possibly. Do I think he will be PPV, no.

But what should Hearn do, not try and get him big, potentially very big (which I think the Butler fight with the Matchroom v Warren meta could be) fights?

I don't really want to get into a debate about popularity. More do you think Eddie would follow through with his offer? And I think he would, due to a number of reasons bigger than how much money he could make off the Butler fight (which would likely be a monetary loss).

In answer to the question posed in this thread's title, I think Hobson is enjoying hanging with the big boys after several years in the promotional wilderness and - like any of us would - is clinging onto his place at the table for all he's worth. If Dennis is Jamie's manager, and Eddie is Jamie's promoter, we all know who is making the decisions, calling the shots, and steering Jamie's career forwards. No disrespect to Dennis but if he is the manager, it is on paper only, and now that Hall has lost the title, he is facing another lengthy period in the promotional wilderness.
