I boxed a few who I thought were as good as the champions I fought, Nelson Ide, Jesse James, Steve Conway, Chrissie Williams, Kelton McKenzie, Jimmy Phelan, Tommy Peacock, Gary Steadman, Gary Steadman.
I also thought Glenn McClarnon, Anthony Campbell and Steve Murray were good enough to win domestic titles

Flipping eck ! Nelson Ide that's a blast from the past! What a strong junior he was. He faded off the scene dint he coco? Then I'm sure he made a bit of a comeback in the senior abas?

A kid I trained with am and pro called Roger Sampson. Dint have a lot of fights but beat micheal ayers and Wayne rigby also got robbed a couple of times and jacked in. How times change...never even boxed for an area title!

I thought Peter Richardson would have been a good British Champion; he was a really good boxer and hit hard - very good technique.

I was more of a novice then but I thought Ide was brilliant. He won his first too then fought Gareth Lawrence who was proper good. Lawrence didn't lay a glove on him for most of the fight then won with one shot. Ide never fought again

I remember Gareth Lawrence as a junior, he was about untouchable and very powerful.

Levi Pattison, packed in when just getting going. Could definitely have been a British champ. Stopped Carl Johannesson in the ABA's and went on to win them.

Yeh sparred loads with Dennis at glyns, proper hard man, IMO would DEFO have got to title class had he boxed amateur just to give him that bit of seasoning ya know? Also palooka I mention him cos I know you remember from your era but I watched daz mccarick absolutley muller peer Richardson in the abas and get robbed, richardsons last fight was against Dennis also I think? Mcarrick was nailed til the brain scan did for him

To be fair to Jim as a Dubliner he did win Irish titles at Middleweight and Super Middleweight plus got beaten by Takaloo for the WBU title.

The one that stands out for me in my neck of the woods is Daniel Teasdale.
Only six fights but showed massive ability working at Brendan's before turning pro.
We all thought it was a foregone conclusion he was the next off the conveyor belt at Wincobank.
Never had any luck. His debut got abandoned at the end of the first round when there was a near riot in the crowd - so bad the police chucked the CS gas in.
He then lost after about 40 seconds against another lad from up here that promised so much - Jon Ibbotson.

McCarrick was a powerful kid, I remember reading he'd gone to a tournament in Finland around 1991 and stopped all 3 boxers over the weekend, he was very good and could have had a career like Adrian Stone if he'd had more luck.

Kelly Oliver was very good for a time and I thought he'd be British Champ also Allan Hall - fantastic fighter, mobile and fierce.

Would you consider Noel Quarless good enough to be in this list?

I remember watching Mark Ramsey box in Sheffield and he looked really good, he had good mobility and excellent combinations - he really knew what he doing. He looked like he'd do well and win titles but it wasn't to be.

Mark Tibbs looked class as well, he was a really good boxer - the same with Peter Gabbitus; there was a top amateur from Telford who's name escapes me, he was good and I thought he'd win the British.
