Anyone know what's going on with Big Bad John. Always enjoyed watching him fight. Has he retired?

I like John,probably the most unlucky domestic fighter in my time of watching boxing,id love it if he could claim a British or Commonwealth belt before he hangs 'em up,he's missed the boat but if it could be fixed for him to fight some Aussie or Canadian bum for the commonwealth that would be smashing

Note=not Lucas Browne

I'd fancy his chances against Lucas browne!

Me too! We all saw what he did to Olubamiwo and a young Tyson Fury. If John came in shape he could out box and out hustle Lucas quite handily.

Ha Ha! John usually as a good twelve round engine on him. Besides, I like his physique. He's cuddly!

Would of been a good opponent for Jousha instead of Skelton who i think Jousha will stop in the first 2 rounds but there is always a good chance Jousha would of stopped Mcdermott in the first like price did.

Why would it be a good opponent if you see it going only 1 or 2 rounds?

If John in the right frame of mind he'd have a chance of beating quite a lot of heavy weights out there, but he loses the fight even before entering the Ring......

I think John gave Price a gift that night and Price knew it from his celebrations after the win

Unbelievably inactive fighter don't understand why. he should be stripped of his English title in my opinion for not defending it. Lucas Browne would damage him badly.

coming back at welterweight I heard

one of mcdermotts legs could not make welterweight!!

Really like John, underrated skills and no issues on conditioning. Seems to lack self-belief. Would love to see him back in the ring and active again.

...I think John's inactivity is because he is effectively a semi-pro. Seem to remember reading something that he and his Dad run a successful and profitable reclamation business or something similar? So the boxing is a nice little earner on the side.

Based on his career so far, I am guessing John will face Joshua for a British title eliminator and get paid handsomely to give Anthony a few good rounds and maybe the odd good hook around the chops. Good luck to him.

I use to train with John and for a fat fella he trains very hard! John don't work for his Dad and don't think his Dad even runs a business...

Don't think he works for his dad but did read that he earns quite well doing some type of traditional craft like stone carving or something

I believe he's a sculptor. When are we going to see him back in the ring??

I remember reading in Boxing Monthly that he restores Statues.

He works for his 'second dad' manager John Branch in antique/bronze restoration, or at least did a year back.

Really classy operator in the ring, John. I think his missus has wanted him to retire for a while, mind.

He is one of those fella's thats never gonna look a million dollars but he is obviously in shape, he's got a good engine, done 10/12 round tough fights a few times.

I don't slag him off for being out of shape I slag him off for never fighting. The heavyweight division in the UK could be really exciting if people like him actually defended their titles.

x2. Most people haven't got a clue about what 'in-shape' actually means for a fighter. They assume that 'in-shape' for a fighter is the same as 'in-shape' for a guy on the cover of a gay mag. Any heavyweight who is male model ripped and isn't on drugs is a fool.

I agree with you there, I didn't have a pop at anyone who slagged him off. Just those that always call him out of shape.
