Great news for the people in the Republic of Ireland that big time boxing is back,,

not been a big fight in Ireland since Bernard Dunne fights

I'm surprised its not scheduled for the same night as Frampton. Dates are still too close for me to attend both.

Macklin / Lee is a fight for the 02 Dublin or maybe Citywest convention centre (place where the Darts is held)

Apparently it's a 'warm-up' towards a Lee fight, so doubt it'll be against much of a name. Macklin vs Lee will be a good fight when it finally happens.

It was demolished, then replaced with the O2, which isn't really a great venue for boxing because of the layout, the seatings in a fan shape rather than a bowl like most arenas, so you can't have the ring in the centre of the arena.

I like it for boxing because the smaller floor space means that the ring is much closer to the stands.

Be nice for Ireland if an actual Irishman won a title for them though wouldn't it?

Macklin is Irish! He has even had the operation to sort his accent out!

if the man can play hurling he is irish.but on a serious note if he could beat soloman which he can and then fight andy lee. would be huge fight

I was thinking of another Irishman last week, John Duddy.......his retirement slipped under my radar but at one time he was on the tele a lot (seemed to get involved a lot).

The frustrating thing about his retirement was that he pulled out of the Lee fight not long before he retired but the fight was due to take place in Connecticut, which is a strange place for an All Irish fight.

He used to sound like a Brummie a few years back. Plastic paddy at best. My mother`s from Dublin so I reckon I`m as Irish as Macklin.

He's always had a Brummie accent as he was born around Birmingham, but I believe both his parents are Irish & he spent a lot of time in Ireland as a youngster. I imagine he has dual nationality, nothing wrong with emphasising the Irish part of it when he feels like it - definitely good business sense to emphasise it when fighting in the US given the American obsession with all things Irish.

Not quite mate You obviously no nothing whatsoever about the huge irish area of south Birmingham that Macklin is from. I guarantee that his first passport was an irish one.

Same as me mate - both parents Irish, spent the 6 weeks school holiday in Ireland every year, spent my youth in the Irish pubs and clubs of south Brum incl playing Gaelic sports. My first passport was an Irish one.

I am a proud Brummie, just as Macklin is, but for people to claim he is just playing the 'Irish angle' to make a few cynical quid betrays a total ignorance of the size, strength and depth of the Irish community in that part of the world.

Yeah but he is English. He was born and raised in England and has a brummie accent. He pushes the irish angle over a little too much for most people. My mother was from the emrald island, have the majority of my family there but I was born and raised in England so I class myself as English. Him coming out in irish shorts and music is a little ott for me and I definitely see why people call him a plastic paddy.
