If we are to judge the worth of fighters based on how many Hall of Fame fighters they defeated, then the Klitschko sisters are really in trouble.
Re: Besides Larry Holmes...
at the time holmes was considered an easy fight for tyson but now many hold it up as his best win ,tyson beat better fighters than an old holmes like tucker ,ruddock ,thomas ,spinks

?? I can't recall anyone citing Holmes as Mike's best win, although it's certainly a debatable topic. No-one really stands out among the Tuckers, Berbicks, Thomas's, Tubb's etc.stevedoc wrote:at the time holmes was considered an easy fight for tyson but now many hold it up as his best win ,tyson beat better fighters than an old holmes like tucker ,ruddock ,thomas ,spinks

I always thought him stopping Thomas was a very good performance. At the time it was the win I rated the most. Probably still do.
Re: Besides Larry Holmes...
i've seen it a few times when someone who knows little about tyson will look up his record and see holmes name and then ask "who did tyson beat other than holmes" ....dempseyfire wrote:?? Tony Tucker, Pinklon Thomas, Michael Spinks, Tony Tubbs, Carl Williams and Razor Ruddock are excellent wins. Berbick, Bonecrusher and Bruno are very good wins. Larry Holmes comes with an asterix because of the layoff but Christ, what a way Tyson handled him.

Holmes was past his best at 38 when Tyson demolished... but its still a very good win.
Evander couldn't put a 42 year old Holmes away.... and Larry was still challenging for world titles at 45.
Tyson is the only guy who blitzed Holmes and it was devastating.... I think this win is actually underated... Holmes wasn't what he was, but was far from finished

I think sometimes people overplay the manner of victory. Tyson punched fast, with power and amazing accuracy. He blitzed opponents. And deserves credit for it. But a win is a win.

Tyson did have some devastating wins that many people remember. However, he had some trouble against Tillis, Tucker, Smith, and Ruddock.
I think what has to be consider about the Holmes fight was that Holmes was very rusty. He had not fought in 21 months. He later had some tuneup fights and looked much better against Mercer and Holyfield.
Having said that, not that many fighters would have stopped Holmes in 4 rounds.

I agree with this. Tyson's resume is all too often these days written off as being comprised of a list of no hopers. Those men were actually pretty good fighters, with good wins, decent size, fair experience and in most cases of reasonable age ( Holmes being the exception. ) The only problem with those men is they simply lacked "charisma", which unfortunately is commonly mistaken for better ability.

In fairness he was 18 years old when he fought Tillis who by that point had the experience of having met nearly every good fighter in the division. He was only around 20 when he fought Smith and Tucker who were both coming off of impressive win streaks and towered over him at 6'5" and 230 lbs. Not to mention needing to rely on survival tactics to hang in there with him. Ruddock hit him with some good shots but for the most part was decisively beaten ( or at least the second time without the controversial stoppage of the first fight. )

In reality Tyson was 1 month shy of his 20th birthday when he fought Tillisdrunkenpiper36 wrote:Ambling Alp II wrote:Tyson did have some devastating wins that many people remember. However, he had some trouble against Tillis, Tucker, Smith, and Ruddock.
