Despite the closeness in age, that was man against boy. Whyte looked as big (if no bigger) as he does now. Anthony was just a gangly kid. Good scrap.

I don't think it's meaningless Anthony Joshua has only lost 3 fights one controversial decision and to my knowledge this is the only time he's been on the floor.

As you say they were both novices but great potential rematch.

I beat a couple of lower level pros when in the amateurs who id expect to smash me nowdays.

And am I supposed to add 'it doesn't mean a thing', 'it's meaningless', 'who cares', 'so what', and so on? That's the impression I'm getting from some of these posts.....

I'm always interested in videos of top pros or super-hyped prospects being taken out of their comfort zones and not having it all their way in the amateurs. It can not only suggest possible weaknesses, but also how much they've improved. Definitely not meaningless.

Im sure there was some controversy over this about whyte not being in right class of novice championships because of some reason or another or i might be right and that was some cuban or something lol

An irrelevant fight, Joshua looks like the boy he is. Anyone who wants to hang meaning on that footage has something seriously wrong with them.

means very little, i don't know a heavyweight that wasn't hurt or knocked down in his amateur career.

As for the fight, a scrappy bout between a kid trying to box & a kid wanting to brawl. Personally I don't read too much into it but if I was Dillian I'd take heart in that I may have Joshua's number. Probably not true but confidence & attitude can swing a fight to a lesser talented opponents corner.

Funnily enough the same thing that worries me about Joshua now he was doing back then - stretching his neck out when he throws a punch. Hopefully he'll improve this habit because it will mess him up as he progresses through his career. I really like the kid & want him to achieve all that Eddie hopes he can so I can still watching interviews with him & Kugan

I've read similar. It used to happen quite often. Apparently Whyte had plenty of fight experience and the novices wasn't the place for him at the time.

I remember when you would get the odd foreigner who would be having his amateur debut for a local club...who failed to say anything about the 35 fights he had in his home country!

Whyte and his team should chase this potential rematch. Makes financial sense for them.

Not sure of the extent of his kickboxing experience but there are videos online of Whyte kickboxing. So, was a kickboxer. He also had an MMA fight in 2008 – though that fight only last 12 seconds.
