Not sure if this has been posted already so if so, apologies .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDSH8cXtFRQ
3 years later AJ won Olympic gold, that's quite staggering when you think about it.london wrote:2009 - Dillian Whytes debut Anthony Joshua's 5th fight.
Against an experienced fighter too, pretty sure Dillian should not have been fighting at novice level back then.jackukmma wrote:If anything that shows Joshua heart and toughness. He was a novice and battled to get through it. Good experience to ahve

Do you know what? It's one of my pet hates when people say it's their first fight when they've had loads of experience in other codes. Some don't even declare it.london wrote:ERIC GUY wrote:IT WAS ANTHONY JOSHUA'S 3RD BOUT.
I heard it was his 5th bout.
It was Dillian Whytes 1st fight so knocking down Anthony Joshua and winning every round is a pretty impressive debut.

Agreed.mickey1975 wrote:My point is nothing to do with those two. If someone's fought Muay Thai, K1, MMA... Then they have fight experience. It's like a Rugby player switching codes and pretending he's a complete novice. Joshua's running is irrelevant. I'm not favouring either, just something I see trainers do and it's wrong. And a Muay Thai guy still punches, that's silly. It's like saying me and Ronnie O'Sullivan would go into a game of pool even and he only had snooker experience.
Yep defo agreed. Also in light of dillian whytes suspension he may have had even more of an advantageDeserter wrote:Agreed.mickey1975 wrote:My point is nothing to do with those two. Big Larry was a better sprinter... Look mate, you are obviously mates and want the fight, I think that ship has sailed...london wrote:mickey1975 wrote:My point is nothing to do with those two. A bit silly your analogies however you cannot deny that AJs competitive athletics background would of helped massively with his boxing with all the strength, endurance, speed etc training he would of received and to run under 11 seconds at that age means he was clearly talented.
The only way we will see who'a progressed more is if they ever meet again in the pros.

IF we extend that logic then do we then ignore Saensak Muangsurin's boxing world record due to his Muay Thai stuff?mickey1975 wrote:My point is nothing to do with those two. Not really. Muangsurin was competing with high class boxers and everyone was fully aware of his Muay Thai background.Boxing Prospect wrote:IF we extend that logic then do we then ignore Saensak Muangsurin's boxing world record due to his Muay Thai stuff?mickey1975 wrote:My point is nothing to do with those two. His athletic background may have helped, but it's no comparison to having several kickboxing matches in which boxing skills not found in athletics and weightlifting are a significant part. If a random track and field athlete was selected and put in a boxing match against a random kick boxer, who would you put your money on?A bit silly your analogies however you cannot deny that AJs competitive athletics background would of helped massively with his boxing with all the strength, endurance, speed etc training he would of received and to run under 11 seconds at that age means he was clearly talented.
Good post, interesting to see.crusader wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUx9sDcl2Cw
Here is Joshua being stopped by a Romanian named Mihai Nistor. I looked for this fight for a while and didn't realize that it has been online for several months. Let me preempt the screams of 'it was the amateurs!! It means nothing! eff you for posting this!' by saying that I'm posting so people like me who were curious about the fight and may not have seen it have a chance to do so. Many future pro stars were stopped in the amateurs, Joshua was very inexperienced compared to most international level amateurs, and he became world champ later that year.
