Anybody ever watch the Commonwealth Games?

It starts next week, and I fancy watching some of the boxing. (And maybe some of the wrestling too, time permitting.)

Will it be like the Olympics, where the BBC put it all on Red Button, and I can just watch what I want? I ask, because the BBC Red Button coverage of the snooker has been reduced quite drastically, so I assumed this would be the same of stuff such as The Commonwealth Games?

I didn't really watch much of the Olympics, so just pressed the red button if it was something I wanted to see. (Like the boxing.)

What I'm asking is, will I be able to watch it live as it happens, or will the coverage the BBC deliver be them deciding what they think people want to watch? Will I just have to tune in and put up with watching running and stuff, just to get highlights of the fights? Or can I pick and chose as I want?

I don't really care about watching online, especially as my computer is at home is on the blink.

Not sure but I have tickets to the Heavies gold medal finals - cannot wait. Weekend on the beers in Glasgow!

All the boxing should be on the red button. There is also non-stop live coverage all day on BBC1 and BBC3 every day, so they should include every home nations boxer slotted in gaps in the other live stuff they have.

Can somebody put a guide up on here, dates/times etc

I'd rather watch the boxing all day, then watch highlights of sports I'm not interested in with the boxing slotted in.

May try some of the wrestling and stuff if I fancy it. Apparently they have Lawn Bowls as well. A day on the beer watching Lawn Bowiling.

Not at all. It's a big stepping stone to the Olympics, particularly in these days when GB boxers are tied in funding wise for an Olympic cycle. It gives young boxers experience of competing at a big multi-sports event and also gives amateur boxing huge coverage on the BBC that it wouldn't otherwise get.

On the wider topic of the Commonwealth itself, there are countries who have asked to be in the Commonwealth that were not in the empire, so for many countries the Commonwealth is a big thing and it is not all about the Monarchy. That is shown in many sports - like athletics and swimming - where you get superstars wanting to turn up in Glasgow for the honour of winning a medal for their country, rather than just money available elsewhere.

At least in the UK its an oppurtunity for boxers outside of the podium squad to have some time in the limelight. And see how they react to the pressure of competition.

Was going to get tickets for the bowls but I'm used to watching or playing bowls pissed at my club so it wouldn't quite be the same!

I'm boycotting the commence although games since they refused to let Ashley brace a talented female boxer to compete since she competed in the 2013 kickboxing world champs, they let her for months prepare and to go to Canada as part of team Wales for the build up towards them games and then out blue drop a bombshell that she is now not allowed to compete, absolute joke

You guys are missing the point - I'm not saying there are not great competitors, there are loads. My point is that as a specified collection of nations, it's outdated and in many ways irrelevant.

It's as spurious as having a specific championship for all countries that have an 'I' In their name. It's not about geography, it's basically 'former British territories' championship which is rather odd. Ps I assume Jamaica is a commonwealth country? If so, will Usain Bolt run?

I spoke to him at the last Selby fight and he said when the money is right. Obviously his weight class isn't appealing to a casual fan so he wouldn't get any hype.

Not a massive follower of the amatuers but didn't he take Yafai's place at the last olympics hence Yafai turning over.

Jamaica is a commonwealth country and Bolt is running in the relay only this summer. I guess it's like a lot of the other games that are out there for these types of sports outside of the world & olympic cycles. Pan-American Games, Pan-Asian Games etc. The concept of the commonwealth is dying but these games are now just a rung on the ladder to get ready (physically & mentally) for the next level of competition ie Europeans, Worlds and Olympics.

Fred Evans has been refused accreditation so will no longer fight.
