Dennis Hobson has outbid Golden Boy for the fight...

I don't think he's in boxing for the money to be fair, I'm sure he won't want to lose any but I don't think anyone could have predicted Golden Boy offering that kind of money. £37,000 each is derisory for a world title, obviously Golden Boy thought they could get it on the cheap.DMA1987 wrote:Well played Dennis. Got to respect the guy, he will be a bit gutted when he sees the GB bid though I'm sure.
No doubt, and he couldn't have imagined that GB's offer would be so low, but he more than doubled it. Nobody feels good about paying 100k more than they needed to.expe wrote:I don't think he's in boxing for the money to be fair, I'm sure he won't want to lose any but I don't think anyone could have predicted Golden Boy offering that kind of money. £37,000 each is derisory for a world title, obviously Golden Boy thought they could get it on the cheap.DMA1987 wrote:Well played Dennis. Agreed. Hobson is absolute quality, the only current promoter who genuinely seems to have his fighters' interests at heart. Jamie McD must surely be wondering whether he made the right decision in jumping ship by now.maninthemiddle wrote:This fella backs his fighters like no other. Neither of his last few World Title shows appeared to be sell outs, but time and again he gets his fighters home advantage, and even when things might not look to be selling that well never seems to pull the plug.

fvcking hellBlack Sam Bellamy wrote:"There were two bidders, Dennis Hobson Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. Dennis Hobson Promotions bid $261,750.00 and Golden Boy Promotions bid $ 127,000.00."
You'd have to think Hobson has paid well over the odds for the priviledge.
This is for a vacant title.ste1983 wrote:Fair play to Hobson for pulling out all the stops and getting his man home advantage.
When does Brook travel to fight Porter again?
The IBF, perhaps more than the WBA/WBC/WBO, recycles challengers. The most notable instance of this for me was a few years ago when the 130 belt was passed around between the same few South Africans, who seemed to always be in fights for the title or eliminators for it.Lenny wrote:I have to admit, this IBF bantamweight title malarkey is all a bit confusing? How is Hall getting another shot? Are they happy as a fringe belt?

I agree completely.davie wrote:Lenny wrote:I have to admit, this IBF bantamweight title malarkey is all a bit confusing? How is Hall getting another shot? Are they happy as a fringe belt?
My first thought when I spotted this story was...."F*CK RIGHT OFF!"
When McDonnell got stripped, a guy on page 2 of boxrecs bantamweight rankings fought a guy on page 3 of boxrecs bantamweight rankings
then in his first defense, we see British no2 bantam vs British no5 bantam, in a fight barely worth of the Lonsdale strap. Which results in a draw
then he loses his title to a 15 fight novice super flyweight (all the while avoiding facing Jamie McDonnell and more importantly Lee Haskins who has beaten all the top British bantams)
now that butler has relinquished the title to go back down to his strongest weight, Hall gets another shot at a vacant title,
despite having a record of 0-1-1 defending the crown, Hall could go on to be a 2-time world champion with out ever having faced a title holder if he beats Caballero?
I'm all for supporting British boxers but this is an absolute effing joke
and don't give me "that's just the boxing is, with corrupt rankings and dodgy alphabet belts".
this debacle is an absolute embarrassment and far worse than the standard jiggery pokerry that goes on for world titles these days
Haskins and McDonnell must be sick seeing this, not to mention the guys ranked top ten in the world that are not getting the shots
