Too bad another really good fight gets marred by such terrible judging.

I had Novikov up by one round, but a one or two point win either way for either guy could at least be explained.

But those scores were absolutely atrocious.

Horrible scores, even by hometown scoring standards. I thought there would be an off the mark card, but I wasn't expecting three cards like that.

I thought it was a very close fight that could have gone to either fighter by a small margin.

i had it a draw after vargas won the last round.

I had Vargas winning 7-5. Not a good performance by Vargas.

Draw here. At best for Vargas.

Very unimpressive.

I had Vargas winning 8-4. By the way, Russian commentators were sure that Novikov lost even before scores were announced. They only had Novikov winning two rounds for sure and possibly a couple more.

So was Jim Lampley. He mentioned a couple times that Russians don't get a fair shake from American judges. He was right.

Thot it was interesting that they were pointing out Novikov being "squared up" in his stance which made him venerable to any and every thing that Vargas was throwing... for the first three rounds... then Vargas seems to "square up" and somehow lost his jab... Novikov seemed to assume a narrow stance and found his jab... Vargas won... but not by much... good fight

Vargas by two point but the kid did not look good.

Needs guy like Robert Garcia in his corner.

Rios is terrible at 147. He just isn't a good boxer.

Needs to do whatever he can to make 140 and at least give himself a chance to beat decent fighters.

All the top guys at 147 will beat the crap out of him.

Las Vegas is totally corrupt and crooked - everything, boxing included. The whole raison d'etre for the city's existence is to fleece the suckers.

No surprise to see more crappy scorecards from Nevada judges.

Not to mention more terrible refereeing from Drakulich.

Vargas is a technically good boxer but the guy just puts me to sleep,i dont know why as i usually like the technicians but for some reason he bores me,its probably got something to do with the fact that he's always on undercards and i cant wait for the main even and i know Jessie's fight will go the distance so im just wishing it over

Yes I know. But Lampley felt the same but for a different reason. That fight was close, but Novikov should have got the win.

I disagree. Normally, Russians are wrong the other way: they think their fighter is winning, but judges give a decision to an opponent. In this case, they felt that Novikov didn't do enough especially in the first 6 rounds. I had the same opinion. He was walking into stiff jabs and sometimes power punches way too often which limited his activity. Vargas was clearly faster, punched harder and controlled the fight.

Varies quit throwing his jab with any authority after three rounds. Novikov was clearly in his head and, IMO, it was Novikov who controlled the fight. Vargas would land a great shot, then get shut down the remainder of the round.

Either way, the fight was close and the scores were absolutely horrible.

That,is exactly what I had.

Just watched this fight after being away for a long weekend. I had it a draw and wouldn't have held it against anyone who had it for Vargas, but those scores were utterly atrocious. It makes a mockery of the sport when the scorecards tell you that one guy wasn't even given a chance.

Exactly. I had a close, but clear, victory for Novikov. However, several rounds were razor thin, so a close win either way would have been acceptable. Those scores were beyond bad.
