Wilder is fighting on Aug 16. against a yet unknown opponent. Who would a reasonable tune up be?

I am sure they can shop around the local retirement home and find one of his toughest challenges.

To me Tony Thompson would be good. If I remember right TT turned Wilder down earlier this year or last year, but don't think he has one scheduled. Another good one would be the guy that was supposed to fight Fury.

He should fight a tune up no reason to possibly lose to a good fighter when he's about to be a beltholder imo

Yes, he should have a tune-up like he has in 29 of his bouts.

To split the difference between my interests and his interests, I would prefer that he fight a relatively safe, durable opponent who would also constitute one of Wilder's top 2 best wins. I would recommend Antonio Tarver, Denis Bakhtov, or Kevin Johnson. This is if the fight weren't on entirely short notice.

If it were strictly up to me, I would have him fight someone more intriguing, like Steve Cunningham. Not a lot of other contenders who aren't too good already, fought recently, or have a fight scheduled. But you can bet that I'd be pleased to see Wilder tested by Cunningham.

Since we're talking about a fight 12 days from now, it's unrealistic that he could fight anybody other than an underpaid corpse. Strictly based on availability, perhaps Jovo Pudar, Darnell Wilson, Evgeny Orlov, James Toney, Oliver McCall, Danny Batchelder, Damian Wills, or Billy Zumbrun. But shame on Wilder's camp for yet another TBA opponent two weeks out from the fight. It's like they do it on purpose so they can bring-in an unprepared opponent.

Yes he should another would be in line, why risk being losing for your sake when he can call himself a heavyweight champion. Let fight someone good just because crusader said he already been fighting bums

Probably will fight a top 30-50 boxrec ranked guy. With a title shot seemingly on deck idk why he'd be fighting THAT good a guy next as idk that he learns enough in a potentially tougher fight with a tougher opponent than he risks if he loses with a title fight up next.

Less than 2 wks out it will obv be a bum and not someone who can possibly derail the Stiverne fight.

Surely won't be Thompson or anyone remotely live. It'll be Sergei Liakhovich or something.

Interesting article on Wilder from his trainer, Mark Breland's perspective. Breland used to spar with Tommy Hearns and learned some things from Steward about working with tall fighters. Breland, being tall himself, is a big proponent of the jab, which they work constantly on with Wilder.

As at least some of you know, I am excited to see what Wilder can do against top competition. I don't think he is just hype. Wlad said he was the fastest HW and best sparring partner he has ever had, and they went 45-50 rounds. Sparring, yes, I know, but Wlad was so impressed he said Deonte was the future of HW boxing. I guess that IS hype. We will see if he lives up to it.

If he truly does fight Mike Sheppard, Wilder should have to restart his career at 0-0...because that's about what it's truly been worth. What a disappointment he's become.

I agree that he should have a tune-up bout; did you not read my post? Now that he's got a winnable title fight in view his best move is probably to fight the type of opponent he's used to fighting, one who is clearly well over-matched and a sure loser.

Crusader and a few million of others say that Wilder has fought enough bums, but why would Wilder care ? Not that he is in show business :shame:
