a very good fight takam is pressing but bloody easy to hit and povetkin is chinny but hits well

povetkin skill should be enough but takam looks decent!!!

Povetkin is no where near chinny.

This is a good fight!! Takam showing other prospects and "contenders" how it's done, taking on some good fighters consecutively. Povetkin seems to have found his jock now that the Wlad loss is out of the way.

If Povetkin fought Takam, I would definitely gain some respect for him. And it would just be yet another good fight to grace the heavyweight division in 2014, which has been a pretty good year.

Great fight! I would pick Povetkin but Takam is a real contender.

Despite the fact I do not like him personally, it would be great to see Haye back in the ring.

Obviously being put on the deck by the best heavyweight in the world a few times makes you chinny, even if you get back up and finish the fight on your feet :o
Povetkin wins this for me, Takem is tough and relentless but Povetkin is a level above and will show that on the night

I agree with Povetkin being on another level.

If Povetkin had taken more of these type of fights (Takam, Charr) in the years leading up to Wladamir he would have stood a far greater chance when they met. Instead he ruined all momentum (post chambers etc.) and stagnated massively.

Takam is a breath of fresh air, taking on anybody he can to earn a shot. Hopefully the HW division is learning its lessons of years gone by.

it depends on APs Fitness. he is the better boxer (takam ist solid but nothing Special) but he sometimes Comes in fat and out of shape and takam can fight a high pace for 12 rounds). povetkin Needs to come in shape or he can lose it in the second half like perez did.

I dont know if it would of made much difference to be honest. I just think that from a style perspective it would of always been an uphill battle for Povetkin as he's a relatively short heavyweight in the modern era and he has short arms aswell.

I agree. He would've been more respected but I doubt he would've had 'a far greater chance' of winning.

Really? so actually fighting a good standard of opposition wont increase your chances of victory when you step up? if your not challenged and tested your skills get blunted, thats a fact.

I'm not proclaiming he would have won against Wlad, im just saying he didnt give himself anywhere near his best chance by fighting bums. Charr & Takam is a nice start on the road back, couple more wins like that and i wouldn't mind seeing a rematch with the top dog (i appreciate the first fight raped my/your/the worlds eyes) just to see the difference a solid run of fights can do for your skills.

Na i totally agree with what you're saying in terms of consistently fighting a high level of opposition prepares you better in the long run but I just dont think it would of made much difference. Beating the likes of Takam and co still wouldnt prepare you for Wlad.

I think there is a realistic possibility that Povetkin's chances would've been better and I'm not disputing that raising one's level of opposition can help them improve, but he had an extensive amateur career, already fought some good pros, and was recently active, so I think his abilities were likely entrenched or close to it at that point. I also don't believe he had the ability or style to have more than a faint chance of winning, regardless of whether those chances shifted slightly due to variation in his opposition.

To use an extreme example, my chances of going the distance with Wlad probably go up a bit if I get in top shape, have a bunch of amateur bouts, and regularly spar with fighters his size, but the overwhelmingly likely result is still going to be one in which I get halted. In terms of the chances of me not being stopped, the ceiling is too low for them to vary greatly.

from early 2008 until the Wlad fight in what late 2013? Povetkin fought Marco Huck as his sole okay opponent. A cruiserweights first fight above was his only decent bout in 5 years. It was well commented on here that his skillset looked to be going backwards, so i cant agree that his extensive am career had helped maintain his skills.

anyways, Nevermind. just happy to see the good fights up at HW continuing.

Chambers back then was a top contender aswell though to be fair.

sorry lefty, i meant from the Chambers fight onwards (beating Chambers made him concencus number 2 at the time?)

Beating Byrd & Chambers back to back should have put confidence to take more sterner tests, it just didn't happen.

Haven't seen Corlos Takem fight, but hear he's not too bad. Not sure I'd call Povetkin " chinny". Wlad was beating the hell out of him and dropped him multiple times, yet Alexander kept getting up and coming back at him. Division needs some new blood and meaningful matches. This might be the type of fight it needs.
