I've got a piece of action on tape where Luis Resto comes over to the corner of Billy Collins Junior after smashing his face into a pulp with gloves that had had the padding removed. He offers both gloves to Billy Collins Senior by way of a handshake. Collins squeezes the gloves, Resto yanks his gloves back in a show of obvious wrongdoing, and the game is up.
"Get those gloves," shouts Collins. "Get those damn gloves!"

That footage is legendary. I've said before how sad that tale is.

The ring walks are brilliant. Both come in with their national bands playing in the ring - trumpets, violins and guitars - and it ends up as a sort of mariachi duel in the ring, both trying to outplay each other.
You can't beat a Puerto Rico/Mexico clash.

Meanwhile, Sanchez and Gomez are calmly smiling across the ring at each other, getting ready to unleash hell

It's been a while now since I saw it, but I remember Collins' face being really horrific, all lumpy and bloody. Even though I tend to exaggerate things in memory, I think I've only seen worse a couple of other times - one was an Arguello fight and the other a British 6 rounder about 3 or 4 years ago between Sebastian Hart and someone. The version of the Collins scandal I saw didn't show resto being exposed, which I suppose is the main reason you'd watch that sickening spectacle these days. The card that night really was one for the gore-hounds, with Duran - Moore on it as well.

As for fights I've got on tape... hmm, I have a compilation of Bowe press conferences somewhere, which sometimes saw hotter action than the fights themselves.

jeez, i remember one particular bowe press conference, the one for the donald fight (i think!!) where larry says something innoculous to which bowe suddenly takes major offence at. riddick squares up to larry who is standing on the podium and looking a bit bewildered by bowe`s sudden mood swing.
suddenly bowe then throws a firm left/ right combo that catches larry flush.
larry just backs up with his guard at the ready, wondering (like everyone else) wtf happened there?

Bobby Chacon - Danny Lopez in 74 was a similar occasion, if on a smaller scale. Was it held at the LA Auditorium?

Yeah, I've got Chacon v Lopez, cracker.

Yes Chacon v Lopez was one of those typical LA wars they had every other week in 1970's LA - those two plus Olivares, Chucho Castillo, Bazooka Limon, Art Hafey, Arguello - just an endless list of talent.

Their fight was a matchup of the two best LA prospects at the time, and of course Schoolboy Chacon handed Lopez his first loss in a brutal fight.

Umm, don't think I can compete with any of those, for actuall boxing action I would say Barrera vs Morales 1 is my best fight I own, for sheer wow factor on a fight, thats probably Tyson vs Holyfield or Lewis vs Rahman 1.

i remember the tyson/lewis brawl was top story on the itv news that night ah those were the days

ive got sugar ray vs Turpin two that was on five a while back, classic and brutal action as Ive said before on here.

Benn Mclellan also. depsite the tragic outcome.

I can remember enjoying chastising all the idiot tyson brigade who had spent months, nay years, lecturing me on how Lewis sucked and Tyson was going to muller him. One of the most gratifying feelings I've ever had was switching on my PC at 5 in the morning with the sole aim of gloating smugly.

there were a fair few around and the most common expression with tyson is "you never know its tyson innit."


what you never know if he was gonna get ko'd in the first half of the fight or the second?

I have to admit wavering at one point before the fight, but then I remembered the fact that Tyson had been bashed senseless by a Holyfield who was himself past his best.

There was a brief moment in the 1st round when Tyson looked like he'd rattled Lewis, and in fact Lewis did look a little skittish in that first round, I remembering thinking 'Oh god no!' however, after an initial burst of enthusiasm, Tyson merely trudged around the ring like a zombie after that.

Tyson really did take a fearsome beating that night, I was surprised he didn't quit on his stool, it was a strange performance where he just seemed to trudge toward what he himself saw as inevitable defeat.

well Im biased as all hell when it comes to lewis so probs not the best person to ask.


Though I dod remember tyson on his stool in response to his corner going "i cant Im trying but I cant" at their please for him to step it up.

I almost felt sorry for him.

Oh I also have some historical stuff like the full Marciano vs Walcott 1, Turpin vs Sugar Ray Robinson (both fights I think).

The thing I remember most is Tyson saying.

"I can't, he'th jutht too big, too thhtrong"

He was totally physically intimidated by Lewis after a couple of rounds, Tyson had fought big guys before and won, but not big, strong and smart fighters like Lewis.

Tyson did prove what a great chin he had that night, he took some serious punishment before he finally went down, those uppercuts were absolutely lethal.
