Will the referee be fair to Kovalev against Hopkins?

I wonder about the refereeing in Kovalev-Hopkins. I remember the nationalistic Steve Smoger took Bernard Hopkins side against Karo Murat.

Hopkins is well-respected in America, and there's still a residue of the old "Cold War" mentality going around. People bring up the movie Rocky IV when an American fights a Russian, evoking nationalistic feelings.

Hopkins is a crafty veteran who knows every trick in the book, and when losing a fight will to use any tactic. We've seen him feign low blows and use head butts against Calzaghe, and use a head butt to cut Wright, and pretend to be injured by a foul against Dawson.

I think we should expect more of the same against Kovalev, especially if he gets hurt and feels he may lose.

But will the referee be professional and be fair to Kovalev, or will he do all he can to help the veteran B-Hop?

Kovalev shouldn't expect fairness. He needs to outland Hopkins by far or better KO Bernard if he wants to win.

That's easy.

He stopped a guy that's almost 50...............woohoo what a grand achievement.

Nobody else has stopped Hopkins you say?
Nobody else got fight him a few months shy of his half century day.

Exactly, for Kovalev it is lose-lose situation. Even a KO win will not give him recognition from some [I_WILL_LET_OTHER_PEOPLE_DEFINE_WHO].

Rocky 4 is my favorite followed by Rocky 3.

I don't think referees are generally biased towards Hopkins, but Smoger clearly favored him against Murat. Hopefully the referee is neutral for this bout.

Seriously. Kill yourself. No seriously.

Rocky 5 over 1 and 2?

You wouldn't know what a good movie was if it hit you in the face.

4 was a music video. Entertaining but mainly for those with narrow minds and no appetite for actually dialogue. 32 of the 93 mins were montages.

1 won on Oscar. One of the best movies OF ALL TIME. 2 was also very good. 3 is where the train started to fly off the tracks and Stallone got full of himself and lost the plot on what the character and story was really supposed to be about. A career club fighter near retirement gets a 1 and a million shot and shocks everyone, displaying true heart and courage. This career club fighter was never meant to be defeating monsters like Clubber Lang or steroid-laced Russian killing machines like Drago. By the time Rocky 6 rolled around the dialogue hailed Rocky as "one of the greats of all time" in the simulation fight video on ESPN. This was never the intent of the character in 1976. This wasn't supposed to be the arc. But money changed that dynamic. The Rocky character in 3 wasn't very lovable. Except for the scene where he watches Mick die his character has become this self-righteous, cocky egomaniac. In 4 they make him more grounded again. In 5 the storyline is good making him go full circle but it's destroyed by having him train AIDS boy. Rocky was never meant to be a trainer. No one cared about Tommy. 6 was on OK way to finish the saga considering some of the damage Stallone did to the character along the way.

He got filthy rich off it. And that's what ROCKY 3 4 6 were about. As ridiculous as their concepts, they made him a ton of $ and you can't go 6 films deep in any franchise without things getting ridiculous and absurd along the way. Look at the F&F movies.

4 was easily the WORST Rocky movie! The Russian crowd cheering on Rocky (the American) during the cold war....just horribly not realistic.

Why do Kovalev need to worry about the Refs? Aren't racist pigs like you stating that he's going to KO Hopkins anyway??

Here you go. If one predicts that Hopkins, Ward or Mayweather is going to be stopped, he becomes a racist pig. How easy ! If one disagrees with you, just call him rasist :shame:

P.S. Kovalev definitely needs to make sure that judges don't have their say, because they will not be fair.
