Not many, but video games seem to think parrying is the ultimate defense.

Wlad knocks down jabs.

Parrying is much more common in asian martial arts (kung fu, karate, taekwondo...) than in boxing. I think most video games are based on asian martial arts, aren't they?

parrying used to be more common in boxing than it is now. jack johnson was a master at parrying and joe louis was pretty good at it too. this has changed a little bit though, especially european fighters allmost never use it but rather use the earmuff shell to block punches.

in martial arts you cannot really use the earmuff defense because bare fists would really hurt on your forearms. thus you are parrying the punch and counter rather than block them with the high guard.

here you can see a perfect jab parry by mayweather:

I think parrying has it's limits but long range fighters can benefit a lot if the can parry and counter a jab. parrying doesn't work as well in close distance and against combinations though.

Parrying a punch can also be dangerous against a big puncher. If a boxer attempts to parry a punch and misses, he will likely get hit by the punch.

Not a parry, but I once saw a boxer catch a punch in his hand, like you would catch a baseball, then toss his opponent's hand out of the way. That was Boris Shishporenak against Will Gillette, in Minneapolis in 2009. It was a one-of-a-kind thing.

Parrying is a great skill but it takes time to master. Parrying and rolling with shots is a far superior defense to the Arthur Abraham "put the earmuffs on" D so many fighters use nowadays which not only limits countering opportunities but ends up with the fighter taking unnecessary punishment.

Harod Weston was pretty effective in parrying Tommy Hearns' punches if I remember correctly. George Benton could parry jabs very nicely. Juan Manuel Marquez, Floyd Mayweather, and Evander Holyfield can/could parry quite well. Wilfred Benitez could when he wanted to.

True ... but follow the money. No one is cashing in because of their superior defense.

Rigo and Nonito are perfect examples.
