Yes. Garbage card. It was more of a prolonged preview for Garcia/Peterson.

Kovalev is a beast and can make even good fighters look horrible, Salka was a undersized bum coming in and everyone knew it.

Actually, it can be worse and it is.

I know BoxRec rankings aren't perfect, but Salka was ranked 71 at lightweight while Caparello was 9th or 1th at LHW.

There's a fight on in Mexico later on that has 2 of the best in their division fighting each other...yet very few seem to be tuning in to it. Think that tells us a lot about boxing fans sadly.

people bought tickets and people watched it on tv, though, so as long as
that happens they'll think about doing it again. wondering if this has anything
to do with golden boy's need to put on cards just to keep things going.
hopefully this won't become a regular thing. garcia-peterson would be
a good showtime main event. porter-brook next week could be ok.

The bum Kovalev fought was from his own weight class, undefeated and top 10 according to boxrec. Some were saying that he is more skilled than Kovalev.

Salka is #71 AT LIGHTWEIGHT with 4 losses AND KO RATIO UNDER 1/6. The fight was a spit into fans' face.

I believe it was nothing more than to build up interest in a Garcia/Peterson bout. Some of you are acting as if this is how it's going to be now.

You can build interest and still fight more decent opponents.

Looks like it. If Haymon is managing most of the top 140 pounders, something like this is to be expected. Other than that, Haymon has not made a history of it. Some of you are like my wife... if I do one thing wrong, I then have done everything wrong.

If he has all the top guys...they why not just match them all rather than expect fans to sit through a bunch of crap?

If he's going to feed crap to fans then at least have a special fight on the card somewhere.

True. That split makes the stable of available fighters limited. But I'm sure the cards will not be consistently weak. I'm sure he is reluctant to put two of his guys in with eachother. He wants to get the most bang for the buck... so to speak. Thanks to guys like Mayweather, everyone involved is looking at the business side of the sport rather than what is best for the fans.
